When arct- ed up to by the boys, it goes far to instil character‘ into them, and the boy's do carry it out to an unexpect- ed extent, and with appreciable re- suits: 1. A Scout's honour is to be trust- ed. ' 2. A Scout is loyal to the King, his country, his officers, his parents,.h1s employers, and to those under him. 3_ A Scout's duty is to be useful ‘and to help others. 4. A Scout obeys orders. 8. A Scout smiles and whistles un- der ail difficulties. 9. A Scout is thrifty. 10. A Scout is clean in thought, word and deed! Snowshoe or Varying Rabbit was the animal studied, and it was learn-' ed that this animal is found in all parts of Canada. It is very timid. preyed on by hawks, owls, foxes, weasels, etc, but in spite of this it is able to hold its own, very fleet and changes its color to suit its enviro- ment. Patrol Competition was won by the Wolf Patrol, Roy Sylvester of this Patrol won the black fox. St. James Troop v Sixteen scouts were present at the Friday night meeting. Mr. Lawson, an old Rover Scout from B. 0., was s. visitor. Mr. Lawson is a brother to the Scoutmaster of this troop and should he decide to make his resi- dence here, no doubt he will take an active part in Scouting in that Troop. The Rev. Moorhead Legato gave on interesting talk on the “Carrier Pidgeon in the Great War." He ex- plained how the Carrier Pidgeon or Homing Pidgeon was used in carry- ing messages during the Great War. They are large birds with long wings. They have been used from the earli- est times and are now kept in large numbers in various parts of the world. ‘rileir speed is marvellous and the distance through which they can fly without rest seems almost in- credible. They have been known to make s. journey of over one thous- and miles without stopping. These birds cannot be induced to fly away lfrom home and are teachable merely‘ because of the strong instinct which tells them where home is and leads them to fly ‘straight to it.
