It wiil probably will be pe found that an appropriation | made tor fome 0! her person who is & garm supporter of the present govern- ment. A rather singular explanation given by Mr. Pater-oa to another question was of Mr. Martin’. It seems that Daniel McDonald, late sub-collector at Mount Vernon Bridge, has been ret red. The collector gives the same reason as in the previous care, that there was nO appropri- stion, bat it was disclosed, in answer to other questions, that «fier Mr. McDonald was dismissed an Gffice at Orwell, uear by, was abolished and then a new officer was appointed for Vernon River Bridge. There eat nO appropriation for Vernon River Bridge, and the ‘government used the Orwell appropriation ic pay the new officer. This little deal seems to have resulted in the disrsissal of @ conservative and the appointment of & friend of Mr. Davies. The appropri: ation is apparently something like the pea in the shell game. Now you have it and now you haven't. Duncan Crawford, late postmas.er of Wood Island north, in Prince Edward Island, was dismissed for political reasons, so the postmaster general said. To farther questions by Mr. Martin, he ad- nitted that there bad been no formal Lavestigation, but he said the evidence of partizanship was conclusive. Mr. Craw- ford bad the$magoificent salary of $22 a year, and in consideration of that income might bave been expected to take no part in public matters. Ay O1p Axp WELL TRiep RemMEDY.— Mis.
