uncertainty made itself felt in to-
dsy’s trading on the Montreal
Binck Exchange and traders
adopted s waiting attitude, declin-
ing to make commitments. With
support at low ebb, a narrow de-
cline in values resulted and at the
close losses were spread over the
whole list with a few gains scat-
tered here and there.
Decision of the United States
Supremo Court to further withhold
its decision on the gold clause
cases, added to the uncertainty
surrounding the market as traders
took the postponement to mean
that the Supreme Court might be
considering an adverse decision.
Expectaiion was freely expressed
the decision would be given tomor-
row, when the New York market
will be closed in observance of
pl`..incoln's birthday.
Consolidated Smelters and Do-
minion Textile were strong lead-
H lJ0inl: at 81 following the
strength shown by other members
of the textile group during last
week's trading. Smelters gained 7-8
at 134. Canadian Car Common was
up 1-8 at 7 i-4 and the preferred
1-4 at 14 3-4.
Dominion Coal -Preferred, last
week’s strong leader, was subjected
to pressure of profit-taking sales
and declined s point at 131 H011.

A Dominion-wide effort is being
made to increase the number of
Scouts in Canada-to bring Scout-
ing within the reach of every boy of
Scouting age. We believe this to be
a matter in which you are vitally
interested. Any organization which
sims at the building up of an hon-
est, loyal, decent and useful citizen-
ship, is one worthy of your help. An
appeal will be made to you for moral
and .financial support, in the carry-
ing out of this great project. I have
that confidence in the people of my
native province, that I know the ap-
peal will not be made in vain, that
the people of Prince Edward Island

Stock and bond tickers merely
drawled 14 awry of minor recesslofns
or innocuous flatterings in either
direction. A few friendly gestures
toward the 'utility preferreds and
some other senior issues gave the
share market what little color it
had-

was only 339,147 shares.
Considerable attention was ai-
tracted -in market. circles by the
weekly report of the American Iron
dr. Steel Institute showing steel
operations at 50.8 percent com-
pared with 52.8 percent a week ago.
This was the first sizeable set-back
in ingot turnout since last Septem-
ber.
Steal shares, however, seemed to
have discounted the tidings to a
considerable extent, and leaders
were only fractlonally depressed.
Power companies senior issues, lift-
ing 1 to around 4 points each, in-
cluded issues of Engineers Public
Service, North American Edison,
Commonwealth do Southern and
American Power and Light.
