Last Saturday evening it was raining, and after the Eastern express had left, while we stood in conversa- tion with Mr. Unsworth alongside the Sum- merside train, a party of women, children and bundles, all wet and generally mussed up, ap- proached the Superintendent, bewailing the fact that they thought it was the last train that went east, and consequently they had got left. Total amount of invested funds, $21,100. — Labor Troubles in France. Paris, Aug. 8. Conflicts occurred last night between the police and strikers. Two Cafes were sacked by the mob. A number of police and waiters were wounded. Many were wounded by troops while clearing the streets of strikers. Fifty arrests were made of persons engaged in an attack on the house of Jacquet at Amiens. Orrawa, Aug. 8, The will of the late Hon. John Hamilton has been admitted to probate. The per- sonal estate in Ontario is placed at $619,- 000. The legal fees for putting the will through court amount to $932. Deceased bequeaths 820,000 to the General Hospital in Montreal. The Yankee boat captured by the Gov- ernment cruiser near St. Andrews, N. B., Monday, is a sloop-rigged craft, 15 feet keel. A report of the seizure is expected by the Department. Rumor has it that Collingwood Schreiber, Chief Engineer of Government Railways, is to become Chief Engineer of the Canadian Pacilic. Prospective successors to Mr. Schreiber are Mr. Archibald, Chief As- sistant Engineer Walter Shanley, M. P., and Mr. Pottinger, General Superintendent of the Intercolonial. —_— Railway Accident. INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 8. A mixed train was thrown from the track this morning near Morgantown by a broken rail. The baggage and single passenger coach rolled down a 30 foot embankment. Every person in the car with one exception received injuries, but no one wes killed outright. The seriously injured inelude seven men, eight women and _ three children. Parnell-* Times" Commission. Surgeon Hamilton, of the Marine Hos- pital Bureau, received a telegram this after- noon from Jacksonville, Fla., announcing two cases of yellow fever and two other suspicious cases. It is feared that it is the beginning of an outbreak. Wheat Burned. WricHam, Ont., Aug. 8. Halton & Carr’s flour mill, with a large quantity of wheat and flour, and Jackson's residence were burned to-day. The loss on the mill and its contents is $35,000, and on residence, $3,000. Railway Collision. Toronto, Aug. 8. A collision occurred on the Northern Railway, near Newmarket, to-day, between two freight trains. The train man jumped and escaped injury. The loss amounts to $50,000. Fatality in a Well. Port Cotsorne, Ont., Aug. 8. While Silas D. Winn, an old resident, was working in a well yesterday afternoon, the sides fell in, covering him to a depth of 16 feet. He was dead when taken out. Arrived Safely.
