He.has to an a lot of traveling in order to get gnough to eat. He has to know the up of all the smaller folk in the Green Forest. He has to know where they live. and how they live. He has to know how to outwit them. Otherwise he would soon gave. so, Yowler is both stealthy md crafty. --2' from that particular place could see without being seen. N . l . h When he discovered that Buster Chuck was living in that rocky ledge. and so was almost a near neighbor. it pleased him very much. A young Woodchuck would make a wonderful dinner. The only way to learn these ihlngs was by patient watching, ind he must do these things from the time he was very young. so it was that now he spent much of his time when not hunting in watching that part of the ledge where the young chuck had made his home. Yowler does much and most of his hunting at night. As a rule he sleeps much nf the time during daylight hours. On the other hand. Woodchucke do their sleeping at night, and are out during the day. Yowler knew this. So it was that he changed his ways some- what. He spent more time awake during the dby so that from a special hiding place he might watch and learn the ways of Buster Chuck. From that particular place he could see without being seen. so it was that Yowler soon found out at just what time early in the morning the young Chuck was likely to come out for his breakfast. He learned just where the young Chuck usually went first. and just how for he was likely to wander. He learned at what time of day Buster Chuck took his sunbaths. At night when the young chuck was sleeping safe down among the rocks, Yowler looked thinK8 0V0l' WT” fully outside. He looked for. and found places where he could hide yet be within easy Jumping dis- tance of the young chuck should he come along that way. All the time he took care that Buster Chuck shouldn't know what he was doing. Not since Blacky the Crow had warned the young Chuck of danger had Yowler shown himseli. or allowed the young Chuck to know that he was anywhere around. He was biding his time.
