her hands in the New Hebrides
Islands. I`hey are a small group in

proof on the presbytery of St. John,
for having elected an elder and a
layman, Judge Stevens to wit, as
their moderator. That this was conl
trary to the practice of the church
was made clear enough, but that it is
contrary to church law is not quite
so clear. It appears _that what is
considered to he an innovation in
Canada Presbyterianism is ° quite
common among the presbyteries of
the United States.
A practical understanding
seems to be arrived at between

conference a strong effort was made

the written discourse as more concise
and correct in expression. It can
