For some time past it has been known that tender feelings existed between J. H. Melanson, a widower of some 30 years, and Laura Hill, a pretty miss in the vicinity of sweet sixteen. They were lovers in spite of what friends would advise, and expressed a determination to wed. In the very early part of Wednesday morning the ardent lover visited the home of his charmer, and she quietly wept to meet him. —‘ The pair drove to Muccan and reached Amherst on the accommodation. They registered at the Terrace, and the groom interviewed Iseuer of Marriage License Read and asked for a license. He then saw Father Mihan, but in the absence of the necessary docu- ment from his parish priest Father Mihan refused to perform the ceremony. ‘I'he couple then left for Sackville, but as there Was no priest at that place, either went to Memramcook or back to Joggins, which they reached at ten o’clock. A despatch from the mines today states tbat Mr. Melanson and Mise Hill were married, but did not state where the ceremony was performed.—Ambherst Press. sere Prince Edward Island Illus- trated is for sale at all the Bookstores, Priee 25c. 20006908 8008 J 600088000000 Womans Best Frierd Oe 060600 : on cooking days is ; Johnson’s ; Bekiag $ Powder s : : ; It is always fresh as we make it in quantities to suit the demand.
