YES BUT UNBANITARY.-The
The watering place on Great George
Street is in many respects a good
thing but it has its drawbacks and
its dangers. There are complaints
that horses silected with strangles
and other infectious diseases are
sometimes watered thereand that
they leave the infection for others.
This may or may not be so but in
any case the font. should be made
sanitary, otherwise its benefits are
outweighed by its dangers. _'
AN INNOVATION.-It is rumored
that a Black Cat Trading Company
is being organized in the southern
part oi the Province. From the
meagre information available it. is
understood that the promoters are
wide-awake business men and their in-
tention is to make the cat industry
contributory to a fox ranch, the pelts
of the cats to he placed on thp mark-
et while the bodies are fed to the
foxes. Further particulars of the ven-
ture will be awaited with interest.
GIVE 'TI-IE-M A '1’RIP.-Charlotte
town has unquestionably the fastest
amateur hockey team in the Mari-
time Provinces in the Victorias, three
times winners' of the P. E. Island
Hockey League as well as the Starr
Trophy. The business men or some
of those who have made their money
in the 'fox business should arrange
with the respective clubs to have two
teams 1ike"'tlie Vfcs and the Abbies
tour the Maritime Provinces and
show that Prince Edward Island is
the hoine of good hockey as well as
of the black lox industry.
BROADEN OUT. - Charlottetown
has lots of hlieedy horses and already
a number of enjoyable exhibitions
have been given. Why not, broaden
out, give the farmers and those in
the outlying towns and villages an
opportunity to see the races or, if
they choose, take part. in them. The
Saturday races which, The Guardian
understands, are to be regular fea-
tures during the winter, could he
made much more attractive and pro-
fitable if horsemen and merchants
would get together and arrange for
special trains on these days. At this
season of the year farmers and oth-
ers are just looking for an excuse to
come to Charlottetown. Why not give
it? '
