S., was startled on Thursday morning by a report that the Drummond colliery was on fre. This mine is the pro- perty of the Intercolonial coal company, and hae been of late exceptionally well worked and the output largely increased The fire is in a tunnel connecting the main workings with a disused pit, and is as yet some considerable distance from the near- est spot where the men are at work. The plan to be taken to put out the fire is like- ly to prove successful A heavy stone wall is being built across the mouth of the tun- nel, shutting it off from the main passages. The air being thus excluded, it is hoped it will soon burn itself out. No serious dan- ger is as yet anticipated. The men are at work as usual, and the horses have not been removed. How the fire originated is a mystery We received yesterday about 18 dozen of Japanese silk, scalloped, embroidered hand kerchiefs at about half price.
