On the 10th inst., several pieces of timber from the docks of Digby and New Pronswick were received at the Department of Railways avd Canals, Ottawa, to show the ravages cause by these insects to the wharves in the places referred to. The timbers were completely periorated by the worms. —£z. - o_ — A sHort time ago the Irish Societies of Won- treal made an investigation into a charge made in a New York period cal insinuating that Montreal contaiced a Fenian informer Mr. F. B McNamee was believed to be the party referred to, and took occasion to deny the char. e, supverting his denial with a letter from Sir John Macdonald. Now the Montreal Post has reiterated the charge, aad added others of even @ more serious nature. The result is that an action for libel has been entered,by Mr. McNamee. iasiglilinaoies Tue counsel for Mason, the man who at tempted to shoot Guiteau and was recently sentenced to severe penalties, has prepared a petition for a writ ef habeas corpus, on the ground that a court-martial has no jarisdiction in time of peace; and that even if jurisdiction exists, the punishment inflicted is excezsive and illegal. Mason says he don’t want to be pardoned by any Guiteau President, and merely asks that provision should be made for the support of his wife and family. - THe prospects of “ good wheat crop ia the United States is encour aging. A Cincinnati dispatch of the 16th says :—Reports from the wheat crop, covering po.nts in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas. The lady’s husband, Mr Willams, a gentleman of fortune, brought suit to recover this jewelry, and showed that it had been given to Mrs. Williams by her friends, at the time of her marriage as wedding presents.
