THE EDITOR S MAIL. -____ The Summer School o* Science Sm,-Having just returnerlffrom the meeting of the Summer School of Science and while the impressions made areffresh in mind, I desire to 5,-ni the attention of the public, especially that part of it inter-_ ested in educational matters,to the advan- tages offered .by the Summer School and the means by which our teachers could be enabled to profit more by said advan- tages. The school was organized to afford teachers, who in their preparatony course of instruction did not have the opportu- nity to become sumciently acquainted with the Natural Sciences and the method of teaching them to become good teachers of the same and that is the case with the majority of our teachers. The educational authorities of Nova. Scotia, realizing that .there was a great defect in their schools from the way in which instruction was given in the Natural Sciences in their schools, instituted the _Summer School of Science. As soon as the educationists of New Brunswickf realized the purpose of the School 'and the work accomplished, they requested aflilintion with the Nova Scotia School, and the name was then changed to the Summer School df_S_cience for the Atlantic vinces of Canada. When the writer first attended the School in 1893, he was -fully _convinced - that in the advantages offered by itwas an opportunity for our teachers to gain a knowedge of the Natural Sciences and especially suggestions as to the best way to teach them, that they could not gain in _ any other way and at a very reasonbble cost. RealizingthisIcorrespondedwith the provincial, city, and educational authorit- ies to try and secure an invitation for the School to meet in Charlottetown in 1894. Failing to get the invitation, the mission- ary spirit of the managers of the School was .appealed to, and in respdnse to the plea made to come and let the .authorities see what the School was doing, itwas decid- ‘ ed to meet in Charlottetown in 1894.
