miitos were under discussion in com-
mittee of supply in the Commons _dur-
ing the greater part of the Satlirday
sitting. 'Two large items were 'nd0D-
ted before the House adjourned at
six o'clock. Ono of these amounting
to $25.000.000. Hon. Frank Cochrane
the Minister of Railways explained. is
intended to provide funds fo'r the pur-
chase of locomotives and rolling stock
for the government railways and
freight cars to supply the shorta80 011
the other roads. in all 6,000 freljxi.
cars are being purchased. 4.000 from
the t‘anada Car Compeliy; 1.000 from
Eastern t'ar Company and 1.000 from
the National Car Company? They
are all to be delivered between Octo-
ber lst and February lst.
Mr. t‘ochrane"' stated that 4.000 of
the cars were required for the G0-
vernmcnt railways and that the ba,
lance would lie available for other
roads, .
The other item which was approved
was $l.050_00ii for the purchase of the
steamers “McKee” and “Drummond”
of 35,000 tons -burden each. to carry
coal from Sydney to Levis tor the
lntorcoliniiul Railway. There was
some iliscussion upon items 'for tho
