April 12—A review of the passenger traffic business of the Canadian National Steamshlps covering the first three months offhis year show an in- crease in passengers from Atlantic ports of 73.8 percent to British Guiana and 28.3 percent to Jam- aica over the similar period of last V9111‘. according to Victor E. Eke, passenger traffic manager of the wmvsny. "These increases are in- dicbtivo of the romantic and glamorous appeal which the West Indies hold for an increasing num. ber oi’ people and of the popularity of our all expense cruises in which passengers have been accomodated at the best hotels during their my at terminal points at a slight increase in cost over the regular steamship fare stated lvlr. Eire. This increased business also shows that a much greater number of people consider a longer ocean Wyflge of distinct benefit resulting in more time at sea and ports en- route in which they can enjoy the many attractions characteristic of each colony which are so different from lcoustomed scenes in the north. Arrangements have been made to make the cruise program of the Canadian National Bteamships for the spring, summer and fall sea- sons with sailings from Montreal and Halifax via Boston, the most attractive of any yet offered, and at low summer cruise fares which make it as economical to travel on these cruise liners as to go to any The Rover meeting held last Wednesday evening was an unusu-l ally interesting one. Mr. Charles Butt of this city addressed thei crew and told of his experiences in the north at Port Churchill and on Hudson Buy. He described the peculiarities of the climate and. told of the dangers and thrills of the ice patrol on Hudson Buy. He astounded all by telling of the, magnitude and extenslveness of the port of Churchill and. took the crew on an imaginary journey across Churchill Harbour to the awe-inspiring ruins of old Fort Prince of Wales. He then took the crew on a. journey from Churchill to Gaspe by sea towing a. dredge. and had everyone excited when in o. storm their charge broke away and was for a. time thought to be lost. He showed the crew innum- erable photographs and also es- kimo harpoons, walrus tusks and many other interesting curios. Ev- eryone preseht was astounded at Mr. Bath's interesting revelations of Canada's great northern seaport and all heartily thanked him and expressed their hope that he might be able to visit the Rover Dell again sometime.
