S. Copper Mine ANTIGONISH. N.S. (CP)-Crew. of geologists armed with the latesi scientific paraphernalia are looking for fresh finds near the Ilte of an Ibendoned mine that produced about 1000.000 tons of copper for export before the turn of the cen. tury. Early miners dug the Ihnft 300 feet deep and pushed out nearly 1,400 feet to develop the vein. The mine was abandoned early in the 19005 when the copper got too scarce to work economically. If the detailed survey now under way by Sharpe Geophysical Sur. veys Limited shows pay dirt. it will mean I big boost for this area on the Strait of Canso. The economy is wrapped up with the ferry service across the strait and experts say it will be shat. tered when the Cause causeway is completed next year. EXTENSIVE SURVEY The geologists are probing . zz. square-mile area 18 miles south of here with electromagnetic and gravity metre surveys. When the district is charted in detail, crews will follow up leads with diamond drills. The work is being financed by :1 Vi a group of listed mining compen. ing including Red Poplar Gold Mines, Consolidated Orlac, H l g h Charger Pctroleums and Durham and Red Lake gold mines. The companies are reportedly in association with 11. .1. Isaac of Montreal. who optioned the con- cession from Northern Minerals Limited.
