Geodwill, At the People’s cem- three advantages AN IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTED, Sir, — The citizens have once more planted and boxed trees along the sides of Great George and other streets, hoping that they will not be destroyed as former- ly. Certainly nothing would be more beautiful and healthful than avenues of trees alcng our principal streets, and the persistent efforts on the part of our publi spirited men to bring this about is most commendable. Now that they have once more placed trees in position, would it not be well to discover the eanse that has in- variably led to their destruction in the past, and by removing it, to ensure the suc- cess of the present undertaking. It is use- tess to blame a spirit of vandalism for the misfortunes of the past, for, as a matter of fact, nearly every tree has been broken down by accilent. The reason id this: When calling at a house, it is usual and generally veces-ary ty te wooden si/ewalks ii tle drive up close to In doing sO, by i young carelessness the trees are caught between the wheels of the carriage, aud destroyed. The only proper way to remedy this is to move the sidowalks out to tue edge of the street. If this were done. would accrue: L-t, The trees would be better protected. 2nd, The plot between the sidewalk and the honses could be kept green with grass, 3rd, The windows of the houses wonld be removed further from, the passers by, thereby giving the occupants more comfort and privacy. | Appropriate hymns were Sung at each grave. At the People’s Cemetery, after the | decoration services had bLeea concluded, | the brethren formed a circle, and after appropriate music by the band, a brief account of the deceased members by Theo. L. Chappelle, P.G. M., and an able _ Along the line of march the streets were lined with spectators and large numbers congregated at the various cemeteries to were high'y appreciated. The weather was all that could be desired, but one could not help remarking that had the watering cart preceeded the procession it would have been an improvement. At Summerside the members of Prince Edward Lodge visited the cemetery at St. Eleanors in the morning and the Suam- mervide cemetery in the afternoon, where the servives were held and an able dis- course delivered by Rev. Brother Alfred Osborne, D. D. The reverend gentleman was former y a member of Wildey Lodge of this city. We congratulate the fraternity on the success of their first Memorial Day service. ——— ~~ eS -_——- TWO MEN MISSING From a Lobster Factery at Cance Cove The Worst Feared.
