Welsh and Mrs. Drake; from Char- lottetown to Sydney: Capt. Douse. AN INSANE country girl, named Living ston, created a number of sensations at different parts of this City yesterday even- ing. She- signified her intention of com- mitting suicide to several persons, and was proceeding to, no doubt, execute her inten- tion, when prevented by a policeman. She afterwards entered the St. Lawrence Hotel, kicked up a general racket, ans 1 was in a short time ejected by the combined forces of three stout housemaids. The police took her in charge and gave her to her friends. Amone the passengers that sailed on the steamer Venewa this morning, was the Rev. Father Lacasse, an Oblat Missionary priest, who has been for six years doing missionary service among the “Esquimaux and the Niscoperre Indians. He is the first Catholic missionary who has ever perform- ed any successful missionary labors among the Esquimauxs, and is now proceeding to Esquimault Gay io hold a nussion. He) sailed from this port to Newfoundland, thence to Labrador, where he will be met by the Nescoperres, who will convey hin northward to the field of his labors, which is North latitude 65. Accipent.—We regret to learn that Mr. Hill (of the Customs Department) and Mrs. Hill, met with a painful accident while driving this afternoon. As they were turn- ing the corner at St. Patrick’s Hall, Mr. Hill fell from the wagon; the horse went on at arapid pace, and, at the corner of Richmond and Queen Streets, the horse ran foul of a post, and Mrs. Hill was toss sed out before the door of Messrs. J. & ' Beers’ store. She was carried to Mr. W. Dodd’s residence, where Dr. McLeod at- tended her. She .s out about the face, and badly shaken. WE learn that, not long since, the Trus- tees of Pownal School Disivict applied to the Department of Public Works for a pian and specificatiou of a new School House. Owing to a “terrible press of busitiess’ in the Department, they could not be a e- | a, in time, and the Truste es wer ob- iged to apply to Richard Weeks, Esq., for the required plan and speci sation. While Mr. Weeks was preparing them, the long- waited for pl: ins were received from the De- «| partment. Mr. W ecks, howe ver, tly finished his work, and in so much better style that his plan and specification were preferred by the Trustees. The Hon. The last one, at which we enjoyed a delightful time, gave great satisfaction to all who were pres- ent. We were especially delighted to hear the little ones, between six and eight years of age, go through their parts so well. We have no hesitation in promising a rich treat to all who will attend on Thursday evening next (tomorrow). The programme will have several changes in it, sufficient to make it almost new to those who were pres- ent on the last oceasion, The object of this concert, like the last, is a charitable one A silver colle ction will be taken up, and the proceeds handed to a worthy widow of this City, who is now in destitute circum- stances. We trust it will be well patron- ¥ ° i ized. Remember, TuuRspAY evening. | 7 te Sian of 0 2n is open at 7. Concert begins at (.40, | i sharp.
