Nowadays it is almost impossible for a business firm to achieve success by other than straightforward, bonest and courteous treatinent of its customers. ihe public have been educated up to a diecriminating condition of mind and very quickly learu when they are getting firet-ciass value iu exchange for their money. It is not possi-~ ble now to “fool the people,” as Barnum used to eay. Ic may be noticed, even in Charlottetown, how the observance of re liable methods of doing business and fair, equare treatment or customers results in success, Take thecase of Johnson & Johnson, “.he Drvggists, a firm: that has etesdily progressed since its e8.. tablishinent in Charlottetown. Hard work, careful attention to every detail of their business, truthfal advertising —and let us eay liberal advertising, - courteous treatment of ali who enter their «bop doore, skilled pharn. «cists in charge of the prescriptions, aod potuing but first- class, pure drugs, are among the factors that have resulied in bringing Johnson & Johnson, “ the Druggiets,” into the front rank of the businees firms of this Province. Their move into the handsome store in the Prowse Block, on the north sde of Queen Square, is one that al! their friends wili approve of, and we are not surprised at the congratulatory expres~- sions beard on all side regarding the appear- ance of their new place of business. The new store is undeniably without an equal in the Maritime Provinces. In attractive- ness of appearance it is unsurpassed ,either here, in Halifax or in Ss. John—and in very few of the larger cities of the Domin- ion can @ better fitted or more completely equipped establishment be found. It ie needless to give a detailed deecrip- tion, We advise all our readers to make a visit for themselves, They will be aure of beirg cordially received by Mr. Johns >n and bis clerks, even if they only want to look at the beautiful store. Trere is lote and lots of room in the shop, and lots of room is the prescription department, where the important branch ot the busi- ne-e—otten a matter of life and death wheo proper attention is not given —ia carried out uuder conditions that should satisfy the most exacting pereon that Mesers.' Jobrson & Johnson take no chances in makiag up any prescriptions entrusted tothem. There isin the front of the store a reception corner for ladies, tastefully fitted up, where they can rest while waiting for prescriptions or make appointments for friends, and the other conveniences of this charming store are euch as can only be realized by a personal visit. ’ . This isa valuable aod rare ore, ured for making colors fast, and as an alloy for temperirg steel. If the report be true," it will be of great value. The recent death of Lieutenant Keating, who was killed while jeading an expedition to subdue a mutiny in the Niger region, is another Canadian contributionto tbe long list of British officere who have fallen in the pathof duty. Robert Sterr of Welfville has received considerable praise fur his excelleut eelec- tion of Nova Scotia fruit, which was sent to the exhibition at Omaha by the Frait Growers’ Association. About 50 varievies of apples were cent, all of which were large and highly colered. One apple, the “Chebucto Beauty,” weighed 25 ounces, and was !3 inches in circumference. An~ other, the“Orange A’ppli,” measured 14 inches round and weigned 19 ounces. Toe ex uibit of Canadian fruit was a surprise to the western people, and removed some erroneous opmions as tothe severity of this climate. The United States naval authorities have a new difficulty to settle. It was only after much correspondence that the ancient practice of naming a battleship by the breaking ofa bottle of wineon its prow was maintained against the aesaults of the WC T Uwho wanteda vase of water used, anda number of prejudiced Kentuckians who counted whiskey the proper fluid with which to honor such ao occasion. Now come the Milwaukee brewers with a proposition that at the launch of the Wisconsin next month beer shall be the beyerage destrcyed. Beer is claimed to be a8 distinctly a Wisconsin product as whiskey 1s a Kentucky or water a Maive drink. The issue is yet in doubt, and the country waits exprctant. IS IT A TRIFLE?
