On Saturday, June 27, a competi- tion hatween the married and single men of the York Rifle Club was shot on the York Rifle Range. Ten single boys challenged ten married men for a seven shot match at 200, .500 and 600 yards. The light was good, but ai somewhat uncertain wind was blowing from the left whicligraduul- ly, changed to an equally uncertain although the veterans at ilrst were enclinod to treat the_mntter as a joke, and expected the result to be a. walk over. At the finish of the 200 yards the warriors were feeling some- lwliat shaky as the boys had not on- ly succeeded in holding their own, but had actually won out' with ' `a nice little margin of four points 'to` their credit; the result being, marri- ed men 29?, single boys '30l. These four points they gave the boys to keep their courage- up. But the 500 yards, they said, would be' different. And in order that there would bo no doubt about 'the' result they selected the most seasoned man of the team to act as coach for the succeeding ranges. When the 500 yards scores were totalled up the result showed that the boys had not only maintain- ed the 20|. yard lead but had in- creased it by two points; result, married men 297, single 209. Then the veterans, at 600 yards, got down to business in dead earnest. livery niarksman had a. couch. They ivntclied the Hugs, the wind, the iight, the shade, in fact everything that could possibly effect the sight- ing of the rifle or the hullct in its course. Five minutes steady niining with intervals for breathing and ad- justing sights often failed to get the rifle 05. The boys quittcd them- selves like men. Every shot told. If the lust two married msn who liiiil down ut the tiring point had mode ii grand aggregate of 100 points euch they would have won the niiiteli, but they ilidn't. The boys iiicreiiscd their lend at this rnngcby eight points to the good. The highest iiidividiinl score was mi-ide by (`.‘olonel (‘-rockett with illi points, closely followed by ~l. M. (.'rockel.t. with 95. The boys z-iiztribute their victory to good innrkmanship, good staying qualities and plenty of nerve. Following are the individual scores: Married Men. Owing to the phenomenal success of this Company, the Directors _have been iinportuned by several to make an addition to the ranch, so that they might be givenachance to buy stock in a going coiicern, ihat has had such signal success. - . 1 * Accordingly ata meeting of the shareholders called to consider the proposal of maki an addition tothe ranch, the Directors were given discretionary.-power of _increasing l number of pairs for next year, up to the number of foxes produced in the ranch. The old shareholders were given the first opportunity of subscribing for the new issue of sto_ck_ up to _lune 20th. As this date is passed and as there is still some of _ the stock left un- sold, it is_now thrown open lo public subscription. _ _ This is not a recapitalizalicii as the term is iindcrslcod by fox- financier. It is simply an addition to the ranch._ The price of the old foxes is not increased, but is left at thefiaire at which they _were put in. The young are placed in llie ranch on the basis of $16,000 p pair. This includes (the ranch, the building of additional pens and all other i-incidental ex- penses, except the keep of the foxes. *~ '-“f`f‘-f~‘=¥‘-~‘=°°~~ , The Ranch and Management The _Company in addition to the foxes owns the ranch and two acres of land on which the ranch is situated. 'I` he ranch is located on the farm of J. M.McLean Esq., New Perth. Mr. McLean is ranch manager and has proven himself a most valuable asset to the share- holders. He is one of the Company’s largest shareholders, and the Directors have entered into a most satisfactory_agreeinent with him, whereby he .feeds and cares for the foxes forthe coming yearat a price that will only amount to a traction of 1 p. c. of the value of the estima- ted increase. _ When we come to consider that the ranch in addition to the seven pairs of young to be added, contains four pairs of foxes, one year old, that have this year produced fourteen pups, anyone will grant that it is the most attractive investment on the fox market today. The Foxes Not only are all the foxes eligible to registration in Class A. but the Directors hold the certificates of the breeders of the original four pairs to the effect that all are pure Island breed, not one of thc number containing one drop of foreign blood, as may occur in the ordinary Class A. fox. They are of a prolific strain, as the results of this ear prove. Fecundity isan in- herited trait, and will be transmitted tothe progeny. Hence the Company expects t_o have next season eleven pairs of foxes from which large litters may with confidence be anticipated. This ad will appear for one week oiilv. The old shareholders have already_tak_en a large block ofthe stock and, owing to the rc-i'orcl ofthe ranch and the low capitalization of the ll -J weeks. plieation afier July 5th next.
