Well over half of the six hundred thousand dollars was paid to claimants residing in the country districts of the two counties that is to non-residents of Charlottetown. TUESDAY --Summcrside firemen held their annual meeting last night at which meetings it has been customary to elect or re-elect the chief of the dcpartnient along with the other company officers, for l'r-e coming year. No such election was held last night. When the order of business for election came up, a lengthy dis- to whether cussion came up as the department. now has the authority to recommcntl for ap- pointment its own officers. The present existing by-laws state that at the annual meeting held in January such officers shall be elected or approved but it was 'tli:- r-onsensiis of opinion at last IlIEl'll.AS meeting that due to the fact that the Town Council not accepted the atiuns madc at the annual meet- ing last )car, that thc existing by laws, which gives the (lepnrt-; mont power in recominz-iirl the ap- pli-iintmrnt of these officers, were now obsolete. "The. Association of Incorporat- ed Village Commissioners” was organized yesterday afternoon fol- ters of mutual interest. "We have had a, banner year. possibly the most successful in the history of the Department," said Hon. Those parents had previously requested certain changes to improve the classroom. On learning that theirs was only one of many classrooms needing the rvqucsted renov-.iti.iis they decided in go half way in make their children's classroom. both morp pleasant and more ef- ficient. The Board to help with the project has iiserl the room as an experiment in the use of brittle boards installed behind the lights to improve lighting, "Persons in this class are fotind in all, walks of life," said Chief of Police MacArthur in describing "Goat Getters in Life" in an ad- drees before the Rotary Club at theirl weekly luncheon in the Charlottetown Hotel yesterday. The speaker continued, "This type of person has been here from had' recommend-l, the dim and distant past. and strangely enough at times, chang- ing their personality, going from the aggrieved to the aggressor. No one is immune from their wise- crncks or sallies and all, at one time or anovlirr, have felt the sting of their barbs and arroivs." Wind, snow, ice and rain all '00l'nl)lll('d yesterday to make life imiserable for people of this city. ,The wind averaged 30 miles all o'clock while being v.sited by It neighbor, Mr. Edison MacDonald who had come to help out with some chores.
