New Toornacne Cure.—An exchange re- ports that a shoemaker at Ottawa, seventeen years ago broke off the point of an awl in the hollow of a tooth which was continuously aching. The other day the tooth was extract- ed, and the little piece of steel found imbedded jn it was just as bright as when it first entered, During all those years toothache was unknown to the man of leather, who concludes that cold steel is a good antidote for the irritating pain. —_——_~»———— Laip To Rest.—The remains of the late Mrs. T. Charles Watson, whose death in New York was recently announced by Tue Examt- NER, were interred in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa, on the afternoon of the Sth inst. A great number of the friends of the deceased viewed the remains at the Russell, where they lay in the ladies’ parlor, encased in a very handsome black walnut casket, raised on a temporary bier, which was fairly hidden by the offerings of flowers of all kinds, sent by sympathizing friends. Mrs. Carvell, of this city, was among those contributing floral offerings. The service tor the dead was ac- cording to the order of the English Church, In the coach with Major Watson, the husband and chief mourner, were Lt.-Col. Irvine and Messrs. W. L. Heron and L. Fortescue. The following gentlemen acted as_pall-bearers: Sir Adolphe Caron, General Sir F. Middleton, A. P. Bradley, Hon. Senator Clemow, C. H. Maccintosh, Col. Ross, James Isbester and ©. H. O'Meara. South End Boating Club. fmmeone Tue annual meeting of the South End Boating Club was held, as announced, yes- terday. A number of applications for membership were considered, resulting in the addition of eight names to the roll. Votes of thanks were tendered to the different officers for the satisfactory reports which they presented. The Managing Committee presented to the Club for elec- tion as an honorary member, the name of Mr. Joseph McCarey, who has distinguish ed himself in the encouragement of boat- ing and had rendered the Club important services and benefits. On motion, this was carried unanimously. The annual election was then proceeded with, and the following otlicers installed : President—John P. Joy. Vice-President—Thomas Lourie.
