The song, which truly catches the spirit of the west was most heartily received. The subject of the evening was "Victorian Music." and Mrs. L. B. At the outset of the century, mu- sic in England was rather at a standstill for various reasons. and lacked any influence on musbai progress; but. un advance soon bu“ gan and continued during the second half of the century with increased strength and soreness. The musical portlCn of the pro- e was for the most part gay and rollicksome, as many of the numbers were from those well known and inimitable Victorian operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. All the numbers -were artistically performed and verv much enjoyed, and at the conclusion members left in a happy frame of mind, all eagerly lookin fomard to next season's activities after an excep- tionally pleasing year. 1n the Gilbert and Sullivan numbers Miss Vera Campbell des- cribed the setting and action, members of the chorus takingpart' in the dialogue with very amusing results thoroughly enjoyed by ev- ery one.
