A ER I oI he IO nt URES ON MIRE Bis . ioe ee A Boy who Advised. The architect who plans high front steps to a house is in league with cers tain boys who have a “large and as- sorted stock” of meanness born in their natures. Proof of this can be found any day in the weekin Detroit, and the latest was gathered in no later than Saturday afternoon. A very nice young man, dressed in the nobbiest atyle, and sporting a cane which never cost less than a dollar, walked up the high front steps of a Jeflerson avenue mansion and pulled the bell. It was plain enough even to ihe driver of a street car that the young man had an affection for some one in that house, and that he was about to meet his charmer. But it wasn’t so plain toa stubnosed boy who was drawing a pic- ture of an Indian warrior on the flag- stones with a piece of indigo. He looked up, quit his work, and loafing along to the gate he called out: .“Them air folks don t patent toothpaste to day !” The nobby young man gave a sudden start of surprise, but he instantly real- ized the vastness of the gulf separating him and that street boy and he did not reply. “Our folks don’t want any clothes wringers to-day, and you want to hear me !’”’ called the boy. The young man heard hun. want any Several pedestrians also heard him, and as they lcoked up the young man wondered why no one answered the bell. “T’m telling you young fellow up there,” said the boy, “that we don’t keep no Woarding house here! If you want cheap board you must go around the corner and three blocks straight on! Do you propose to pay in advance ?”’ As no one came to the door the young man pulled the bell again. “I'm telling you that you can’t pass yourself off on us as a grasshopper suf- ferer !’ shouted the boy. “ If you want some cold vittles go round to the side gate |” Fowr pedestrians had hulted on the other side of the street, and the young man looked down on the boy and soft- ly said ; “ Boy, can you catch teo cents ?” * We don’t sign no petishuns here for a national monument to the inventor of the dish-pan!" replied the boy. * What I'm talking to vou is that you want to go round to the cook’s door!’ The young man wished a wish con- tiining 413 grains fine, that the builder of those high steps had been dead for forty years, but the door didn’t open, und the boy hung right to him, call- ing out :-— ‘ Hain’t I been telling you that you can’t get in there! You may be the private watchman on this blook, but you can’t go around pulling front door bells and putting on airs! If I have to angy much longer I'll call the police !”’ “I’ve got half-a-dollar here, boy,” said the young man, -as he turned around. ‘« Let’s see how it looks!” softly re- plied the lad. But the half-dollar was at home The young man searched for it in vain, and the disgusted boy turned to the men across the street and called out :— ‘Isn't it agin’ the law for a fellow io be taking a beeswax impression of a front door lock in the daytime ?”’ They started to come over, and the young man hurried down the steps and up the street. He gave the boy just one look. It was a look in which rail- road collisions and steamboat blow-ups were equally mixed, and then frosted with a Bogardus-kicker. “Oh! ye kin wink at me, and try to buy me off!” growled the boy, “ but these principles of honesty were painted all over me when I was a baby, and they can’t be rubbed out nor bought up for wealth !” Just then a young lady threw open the door and smiled and bowed and got as far as: “Why, Fwed!’’ when she discovered he wasn’t there. The foot man was out, and she had waited to ‘fix up,” and “ Fwed”’ had gone. She backed in and shut the door, and the mean boy got down to finish his Indian muttering : “If he couldn't raise fifty cents to reward me, how'd he ever manage to git that gal one o’ them corsets with a hundred and ninety bones in it!’’— Detroit Free Press. eet ot et Get Marriep.—Although bachelors have (Crabb Robinson, for example, who lived to be 94) often attained a great age, statistics go to prove con- clusively that, so far as men between 25 and 30 are concerned, the married state is more conducive to longevity. In France the mortality per 1,000 is 6.2 in married men between 25 and 30, and 10.2 in bachelors of the same ages. Belgium and Holland show similar sta- tistics. There never has been a time when the heal- ing of so many different diseases has been caused by outward application as the presejt, It is an undisputed fact that over half of the entire population of the globe resort to the use of ordinary plasters. Dr. MELVIN’s CAPSICUM POROUS PLASTERS are acknowledged by all who have used them, to act quicker than any other plaster they ever before tried, and that one of these plasters will do more real service than a hundred of the ordinary kind. Ali other plasters are slow of action, and require to be worn continually to effect a cure; but with these it is entirely dif- ferent: the instant one is applied the patient will feel its effect. Physiciansin all ages have thoroughly tested and well know the effect of Capsicum; and it has always been more or Jess used as a médical agent for an outward application; but it is only of very recent date that its advan- tages in a perous plaster have been discovered. Being, however, convineed of the wonderful eures effected by Dr. MELVIN’S CAPSICUM PoRoUS PLASTERS, and their superiority over all other plasters, they now actually prescribe them, in their practice, for such diseases as rheumatism, pain in the side and back, and all such eases as have required the use of plasters or liniment. After you have tried other plas- ters and liniments, and they have failed, and you want a ecertain cure, ask your druggist for Dr. MELYrIN’s CAPSICUM PORQUS PLASTER. You can hardly believe your own convictions of its wonderful effects. though powerful and quick in its action, you can rely On its safety for the most delicate person to wear, as it is free from lead and ether poisonous material commonly used in the manufacture ef ordin- ary plasters. One trial is a sufficient guarantee of its merits, and one plaster will seli hundreds to your friends. Ask your druggist for Dr. MELVIN’s CAPSI- cum Porous PLASTER, and take no other; or, on receipt of 25 cents for one, $1 for five, or $2 fora Soda, they will be mailed, post paid, to any address in the United States or Canadas.
