      need
      to
      exercise
      their

      authority
      in
      condemning
      these
      attacks
      and
      cor-
     
     
      recting
      the
      underlying
      problems
      which

      age
      such
      incidents.
      Bias-motivated
      incidents
     
     
      are
      awful,
      but
      they
      also
      offer
      a
      unique
      opportu-
     
     
      nity
      for
      raising
      consciousness
      and
      for
      shifting
     
     
      the
      climate
      of
      opinion
      on
      campus.

      a

      condemned

      persecuted
      for
      being
      a
      heterosexual

      homosexuality,

      alter

      orientation
      to
      fit
      the
      need
      for
      the
      so-called
     
     
      ‘‘moral-majority,’’
      or
      would
      you
      stand
      up
      for
     
     
      what
      you
      believed
      in
      your
      heart
      to
      be
      true?

      will

      question
      up
      to
      those
      who
