In the House of Commons yesterday proposed amendments to the Controverted } Elections Act occupied most of the day. In che Senate Premier Abbutt said that no communication had passed between the Government and the Government of Que- bec; but the Governor-General had re- ceived a communication from the Govern- ment of (luebec, which he had transmitted to the Dominion Government. Senator Miller immediately gave notice of an address calling for the correspon- dence. ‘The Senate railway committee yesterday adopted a report on the Pacaud-Mercier railway steal. The report Devlin, member yesterday that . Charles for Ottawa County, was dead is untrue. He is much better and in a fair way to recover. The Ottawa liar got into the Free Press yesterday, and stated that the report of the committee in the Cochrane case had been prepared by Mr. Foster, counsel for Cochrane. Last night in the House of Commons Co!onel Tisdale, chairman of the committee, pro- nounced the statement an unmitigated falsehoud, and said the time had come when measures should be taken to put a stop tothe lies of thegrit papers concerning the committees jof the House. The Free Press the day before had stated that Tis- dale’s report would condemn Cochrane. McIntosh also contradicted the statement of L’Electuer, that the Government had sent /iicn to Quebec to interview the local oppositiun there with a view to crush Mer- cier. Investigation into the charges against Governor Schultz were concluded yester- day, and resulted in his complete exonera- tion, the whole charges being shown to be absolutely without foundaiion. Mr. Mul- ock having announced that he had no more witnesses, Governor Schultz called on him to make a formal statement of exoneration. Mulock had the grace and gool manners to consent, refusing to admit that there had ‘Lhere The sub-committce in the Tarte-McGreevy case is unable to ‘agree and will present two reports to the committee probably on Tuesday.
