Mr. Ashford was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, re- ceiving his early education at Mount Allison and going on to Queens University and. Union College. As a student he took an active part in athletics. was pre- sident of the student body and was one of the originators,‘ of the Student Christian Movement. He won the Chown Gold medal in history. After graduation Mr. Ashford went to British Columbia. where he held two pastorates. There too he was very active in athletics 11nd Ofsanlzing athletics for young P80916- He played and refereed hockey all over southern British Columbia. Mr. Ashford then went to In- dia as a missionary. Between terms in India he was minister of St. Paul's United Church. Brandon, one of the largest churchu in Manitoba. After a varied Queer in India, he returned to Canada in 1939 and went into the R.C.A.F‘. He served as chaplain in Canada, Erlsland, Africa and the continent. going to France shortly after "D" Day. He was knovm as the "Flying Padre." being the only chaplain to ily on active operations against the enemy. A large crowd attended the opening dance at Winsloe Station Hall on Friday evening and en- joyed it_very much. A number of the school children and their parents motored to Stan- hope Beech on Thursday after- noon for their school closing. While some enjoyed the bathing, other numerous games were play- ed. The swings and tilts were a great enjoyment for everybody, both young and old. The W. I. treated the pupils with ice cream, after which a dainty supper was’ I served by the ladies.
