Lord Desart has been the first to record in verse England’s sorrow atthe death of the young V’rince Imperial. He sings : On Longwood’s shore the exile stands, Despair upon his haughty face ; fehind him clasped his useless hands That fain would rule the human race. Victor of many hostile lands, He falls in peace—to him disgrace. The iron girdle round Sedan (rows narrower yet ;no man can fly ; lie fights fordeath, that broken man, ( apitulates, and does not die. Not then—while the eagle floats Above a cause worth fighting for But, cast out by his people’s votes, lie fades, like his great ancestor. At ChiseThurst an Empress weeps ; tfalf-mast the flags of Englnad wave ; While far away our soldier sleeps securly in a soldier's grave. Whate’er the name he might have won, No grander this in vicoroy’s breath— ‘« He of his race achieved alone, The glorious end—a hero’s death.” A i a Meat Exports. ‘Lhe export of dressed meat from the United States to the English marixet, which reached large proportions two years ago, but was temporarily sus* pende in consequence of the increasing shipments of live cattle, is about to be revived ou an extended scale. The action recently taken by the British Government to check the exportation of cattle from that country, has pro- duced its natural effect. Large dealers in cattle and beef have given up ex- porting live cattle, and again turned their attention to the export trade in dressed beef, anda new system of re- frigerating is being put into action, whereby the necessity of using 1cé on board the steamships will be done away with. It has been found, through nu- merous trials in exporting meats, that they must not be frozen, but only kept at a temperature which will delay des composition, The new system is said to be perfect. The cooling process 1s produced by means of corapressed air, which can, if necesary, be reduced in temperature even below zero, It is eXx- pected the fresh meat trade to Great Britain can be revived to its former magnitade, and even exceed it. on tai hdgiimethens General News. CATARR=L Constitutional Catarrh © Remedy CURES CATARRH., Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Constitutional Ren.edy. T. J. B. Harpine, Esq., Brockville, Ont.:— Dear Str—It is now two years since your ‘‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced tome. I have waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to be true.” I was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par- ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit up in the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head, A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh Remedy and take no other. T. J. B. Harprye, Dominion Agent, Brock- ville, Ont.
