     A committee was chosen to investigate the establishment of a 
     
     provincial bird for P.E.I. Rosemary Curley, Bruce McLean, Phil Michael 
     
     and Bill Reddin were appointed to this committee. They will report

     Notes from the January Outing 
     
    
   
   
    
     About fifteen enthusiastic members showed up for our snowshoe and 
     
     cross country ski outing on Rustico Island in the National Park. The 
     
     day was unseasonably warm with 40 degree temperatures and no wind. After 
     
     being serenaded by chickadees and nuthatches we adjourned to Stanhope 
     
     Lane for an outdoor picnic and shish-kabob. All of us became convinced 
     
     that shish-kabobs should be added to everyone's outdoor cuisinary adven- 
     
     tures both winter and summer. 
     
    
   
   
    
       
     
    
   
   
    
     STRIKING A BLOW FOR "CLEAN ISLAND“

     Four girls were standing beside a trash can, waiting for the 
     
     "walk" signal. One girl took out a stick of gum and let the outside 
     
     wrapper drop on the sidewalk; a second later she let the inner 
     
     wrapper drop. 
     
    
   
   
    
     An interested onlooker picked up the two bits of litter and 
     
    
   
   
    
     ‘ proffered them, saying politely: "Excuse me, lady, you've dropped 
     
     something". 
     
    
   
   
    
     With a deflated "Aw-w-w-w" the girl pocketed the papers. Two 
     
     blocks farther along her three companions were still giggling.
