assignment with just a single mark on it, whether the mark is an A or an F. | understand for certain subjects, such as math, an answer is right or wrong and in such cases, this might be acceptable. But for a twenty-page term paper, it’s very discouraging to just have a single figure or letter on the last page with absolutely no criticism or comments. I can’t help but wonder if my paper’s been read. The best prof I’ve ever had gave back my English paper with a one page table breaking down my mark according to a set of criteria, the individual scores on each, comments on each and my combined overall mark. That is how students can improve on their work. 7. If at all possible, try to remember our names. I know this is next to impossible in some classes that have zillions of students, but we appreciate the attempt. Some professors take photos of their © students and [| think that’s great. 8. Please don’t use student markers for TESTS, unless it’s very straightforward such as multiple choice. I know these seem like minor nitpickings, and every prof on campus is probably wondering who the hell I think I am, telling them how to do their job. Again, I have no experience being a professor, but I do have lots of experience being a student. These are the exceptions to the rule; generally I’ve had great experiences with my professors. I hope that I haven’t offended anyone, but rather, improved relations between students and professors. If either students or professors would like to add or subtract points to this list, I'd love to hear from you. That’s just my opinion.
