UPEI‘ students voted last ’weektodropoutofthe Atlantic Federation of Students. The problem} arises one considers that the $1.00 membership fee has already been collected from students during registration. How and when is this money to be reimbursed to students? 'Ihe executive is working on this problem and hope . .to bring a solution ,for- ' ward at the next Council meeting . Kefin Gauthier repOrted that the Student Union is conducting an :information gathering survey. He stated, "Councillors should be Very interested in this as it is very vital to Student‘Union operaticrisr V It's going to take a 'lot of work and. time so anyone that is interested in working on this project should drop dam to the Barn and see I me about it." Mr. Gauthier went on to report that the Student Union constitution was revised last year. A committee is‘going to be set up once again‘ this year to .further study" the , constitution and have a report on it by April lst of- 1979. Any interested persons may contact him A, at the Barn during regular I office hours . Another is to be Set up to look into our group insurance plan. We are presently insured by Zurich but there are a number of other insurance companies that are looking into! . Mickey Place, Student Union 1 Business Manager, stated that he is very happy with Zurich. They are good to work with and very flexible ‘but that since we spend some I $20,000 each year then ' perhaps we should at least see what other companies might offer. Next- topic to be discussed was the .Student Disciplinary Committee budget . 'IHE UPEI SLN,‘Ihursday,Oct.26,l978,paqe 7 and their power to_ enforce their fines or penalties. The Student Council is going to approach the Senate and request that fines that are not paid should be added to a V student's account at the Business Office and that marks be withheld until these fines are paid. This would mean that a v studentwould not graduate until he paid his fine. If a student dis— agrees with the fine levied by the S.D.C. he can appeal . his case to the Senate Appeals Committee . There will be entertain- ment in the Panther lounge every Tuesday night in the future. This will be local talent and there may be a minimal cover charge. A deal is being worked out with Moosehead Breweries where they will purchase a stereo system for the Panther lounge. Gerald McKenna gave a report on Fall Fest events as well as 'the prqgosed Fall Fest 78 should show a small profit and be similar to Fall Fests of the past. The only noticeable differences are that most events°will/be held in the Barn rather than the embers _ Gym and the wet/dry square dance to be held on Wednesday night. 'lhe UPEI Drama Society is heading into its second year on campus. Chairman ‘ of the club, Jennifer Tweddle, presented her budget and plans for the 78-79 year. The budget will not be voted on until the next Council meeting but some of the planned events include: another Music and Drama night, Winter Carnival Campus Cabaret, Poetry .Readings, a one act. play, and working with Prof. Pratt on a major production. The last topic on the Agenda was the Book Exchange. The two people who ran the September Exchange will not be available to run the one next January. ’Ihe Student Council is going to look into this randSeeiftheycanccme up with some interested students to operate this valuable service for people wanting to sell their old books and‘buy new ones cheaply.
