In speaking of the likelihood of cholera aining a foothold in America this year, Dr. anveay ot New York tersely advises every- body to be prepared for the worst. This may seem at the first glance the talk of an alarmist, but it is in reality soun1 advice. There is no cause for panic, but a systematic preparation in view of a possible epidemic of cholera is really essential, Quarartine regulations need to be observed. The work of the scavenger should extend toevery hole and corner of cities and towns, An uncontaminated wate: supply isessential, The matter of sewersg: is important. But there is yet another anc also very important consideration. It is a: undisputed fact that disease of any kind, and especially such # plague as cholera, will foste: most quickly, and with the most deadly effect, upon an already diseased or debilitated system It therefore becomes th. duty of every person to as far as possible secure bimself or herselt from its ravages, by confronting the dreadec enemy with a strong ard healihy physical system. Comparatively few persons find themselves in that eondition at this season of the year. The vast majority, indeed it may be said that all persons, find it necessary to fortify themselves by the use of some remedial agency, to restore lost vigor and vitality an os be literally prepared for the worst. The grateful testimony of thousands has established beyond dispute that no more effective combination for this purpose ie offered to the public than Hawker’s nerve and stomach tonic and Hawker’s liver pills. ‘Lhese are standard remedies, the formulas of which are endorsed by leading physicians on both sides of the berder; and they present to everyone at moderate cost the most efficient means of regaining perfect health. They revitalize the blood, stimulate the di- gestive organs to regular and perfect action, reatore to the nerves that force and strength which they have lost, and remove from the system all traces and effects of debility. No time should be lost in hesitation or to make a choice between remedies; for there is no other agency 6o aure and effective as Hawker’s nerve and stomach tonic and Hawker’s liver pills. They are within the reach of all classes, and now is the time to secure the boon of restored health which they place within easy graap. my8 dytf et Don't Stuff a Cold. If you do you will, nine times in ten, have a fever to starve. A cold is a shock received by the myriad nerves that bristle near the surface of a human body. This shock is transmitted to the nerve centres, and then back tothe mucous membranes, forcing a great amount of blood to those membranes, creating a more or less severe irritation, «nd consequent rise in the tem- perature, followed by chills. food in the stemach still more increases the temperature ; and, worst of all, helps clog the secretions or natural outlets of the body. Itis high time we broke away from an old notion which, like some others, has done more harm than good. For example, in years past how many poor fever sufferers, burning with an internal fire and thirst, were hurried to an untimely grave because not allowed cooling drinks or a bit of ice by the old time treatment for fevers, as foolish as the adage for fools, At iast one cunning delirious patient got to a pump of cold water and drank his fil; de- termined not to leave until the well ran ary, ne sjackea tue fever, ree covered, and doctors learned a lesson. Experimenting with a severe cold is a dangerous custom, as most persons try one remedy only until some friend suggests an- other ‘‘sure cure,” as Mark Twain so humor: ously describes. When slight hoarseness or tightening of the nasal membranes warns one of a skin exposure or chill from wet, act promptly; a delay is dangerous, With chil- dren it may mean croup snd strangulatiou; with adults, catarrh, bronchitis, perhaps pneumonia. If neglected, nothing can pres’ vent the sneezing, red nose and woe begone look of a person with a cold, Scores of moth ers would as soon go to bed without matches in the jhouse as without that old-fashioned remedy, Johnson's Anodyne Liniment, near at hand for croupy childien, Used with a mild laxative, as described in a pamphlet which I. 8. Johnson & Co., Boston, Masn., will send free to anyone, Jvhnson’s Linimeot wilcureacold for adults quicker than any known remedy. A mild, natritioas diet, a geutie physic to open the secretions, and ga battle of that old Anodyne from your drug- gist, will cor.quer any col¢, Johnson’s Ano dyne Linimentwas originated by an old fam- ly physician more thau seventy years ago. m8 a6: wli Don't Wait for the Sick Room. Excess of | A Brockville Drug gist’s Case Brockvit_e, April 24th.—The popular imprasion is that doctors end druggists seldom take their own medicine. ‘This is no doubt true, but when a doctor takes ill he generally calls in one of his own profes- sien, in whose skill he has every confidence, or when a druggist is in a similar situation, he often puts his faith in the preparations of some other chemist which he knows give good results. Both the doctors and drug- gists in such cases show their good sense. A casein point happened in this town a short time ago. Mr. F. M. Turner, the «li known and popular druggist, who is ,ow travelling for Parke, Davies & Co., as for along time been a sufferer from - ngestion and inflammation of the kidneys. le tried a great many remedies, but with- ut results. His patrons, however, spoke o highly of Dodd’s Kidney Pills that he was induced totry them. He now states hat he is completely cured, and to your sorrespondent he said that as a rule he had very little faith in patent medicines, but that for the cure of kidney troubles, rheumatism, backache, etc., hc dves not know of any remedy that is giving such good results as Dodd's Kidney Pills..... USE SKODA’S DISCOVERY, the great blood and nerve remedy. When we assert that Dodd’s Kidney Pills Cw" Cure Backache, Dropsy, Lumbago, Bright’s Dis- ease, Rheumatism and all other forms of Kidney Troubles, we are backed by the testimony of all who have used them.
