The following are the fail particulars
'from the Boston Traveller of the crime
charged against Gyms L. Ryan, the Char-
'Iottetown young man who removed to
-Boston last summer.
The mystery surrounding the cruel
and horrible murder of Yee Yoke, the
Chinese iauuoryman of Hanover, who
was throttled and whose body was then
thrown into a wash tub, is bothering the
police, and every effort is being made tc
unravel the tangled threads which pre-
sent themselves thus far.
“I am innocent of the crime. I was
waiting for ashirt to be laundered and
than left the store," declares the sus-
pect, Cyrus L. Ryan of Hanover, who is
charged with the crime, and was held
without bail in Hingham court
today.
It is now known that the police have
under surveillance another man, and a
-second arrest is considered probable very
shortly. It is claimed that Ycc_ was
assaulted earlier lu the week by two
Hanover young men.
The medical examiner declares thc man
was first choked and then thrown into the
washlub,a(ter which the box of soap,
weighing 75 pounds, was deliberately set
on the murdered man’s head to prevent
any possible chance of recovery. The
hldeousness of the crime appals the
citizens of Hanover. -
The most damaging eviience against
Ryan is his possession of a revolver said
to belong to the Chinese. The theory
advanced that Ryan committed the crime
because he needed money is refuted by
Byan's half-brother, who says that the
prisoner had plenty of money and needed
for nothing.
Ryan paid debtsyesterday at the factory
where he was employed. One man got
$9 and others smaller sums. He had $18
when arrested.
Yee was in Boston two weeks ago, and
had $75 then. Of this sum but $47 has
been found, that being between thc mat-
tresses on the bunk. The remaining $28
and the proceeds of two wecks' business
are gone. Thc money drawer was found
opened and empty, with the key in ii.. The
trunk was opened and had been riiled.
RYAN DENIES CRIME.
Ryan, the accused murderer, Captain
Proctor of tl. c state police, and a group
of Chinese relatives ofthe murdered
laundryman, arrived in Hanover on the
train which left Boston at 8.13 a. rn.
Ryan's personal appearance is good.
His facial und general personal character-
istics do not denote the criminal type.

spoke, and looked the reporter straight
in the eye as he made the statement.

gaze on the landscape through which the
train was passing. At times he displayed
a slight symptom of nervousness by
clasping his hands and twiriing his

SHRIEKS AT RYAN.
A brother of the murdered Yee Yoke
looked searohlngly and with a hideous
stare at Ryan, and then exclaimed in a
hysterical tone that fairly shrieked for
vengeance, “Meiican devil," “Melican
devil," and then burst out into a. flood of
tears, losing complete control and his
usual Chinese stolcism. The scene was an
affecting one. .
In the party of relatives who came on
the train from Boston were Yee Shing of
Bsverly,the brother of the murdered man,
Too Sing, a nephew, who runs a laundry
at the corner of Dorchester street and
Broadway, South Boston, and Soo Hoo
Wing, an interpreter, of ll Harrison
avenue.

ited the shop of Barber Brad Snell lin the

SNELL`S STORY ,
1 In the presence of TIIE TRAVELER re-
porter and the Chinese, Snell told the
following story of the events of yester-
day:
"I noticed this man they call Ryan
hanging about the laundry yesterday be-
fore noon time. In fact, my attention was
called to him three or four times. Some-
times he was standing out on the platform
in front of the laundry and then went into
the shop. l did not know him and prob-
ably for that reason noticcd him more
particularly.
"At noon I went to dinner, returning
shortly bciorc I o’clock. I was in the shop
cuttiugn man`s hair when Paxton, the
butcher entered: He said to ms, “Where
is John!" meaning the Chinaman, that
being the name we all called him. I
answered that I did not know and asked
ifhe wasn‘t in the store. Paxton replied,
“I looked through the window and I ccn‘t»

“I said, perhaps he is in the closet.
"Paxton replied, ‘He would not go in
there and leave the door open.` I asked
Paxton why he did not goin and see.

Yesterday was nomination day for the
oillees nf Mayor, eight Councillors and
three Commissioners of Water Supply
and Sewerage. A number of the candi-
dates and occasionally some of their
friends dropped into the City Cierk's
office in the City Building during the
day and left in their nomination papers.
TheCity Clerk, Mr. Davison, was not
there, being absent from the City, but
the papers were received by the Stipsnd-

up the law and found that the nomi-
nations ought to be “given in to the
City Clerk." Some wanted to know why
the Clerk was absent, who had given him
leave of absence, could he lawfully
depute his authority to another, and so
on. Just before the hour of closing some
excitement prevailed. An effort was
made to get the Rccorder`s opinion by
phone but he was not within reach ut
the moment.
There was also a question in some
minds, as to thelcgality of Angus Mc-
D'ona1d’s nomination for Ward Two us he
had not given in his nomination in
person. There was talk of making nr.-
othcr nomination for that ward, but it
did not materialise and the clock struck
four.

advised to go ahead with the election

Some oihfr lawyers are understood to
hold a diii'erent opinion. The Council
could have appointed a City Clerk yester-
day had they known of the trouble in
time. In any case, if any illngality exists
there is nprobability that the Legis-
lature may cure it and confirm the new
Council and their doings.
