Ballems and Acorns intormanied quite fre- quently even untll the resent time and it would seem fit that a s o e should be included 1n these notes. John Acorn was born ncsr Dan- fourth. Maine. His father was Mathias Acorn from Hesse. Denn- stadt. His ancestors had been millers for generations. John fought in the Revolutionary War end ar- rived 1n P.E.I. s young rnsn in 1782. He got a grant of lsnd at Vernon River and started s mill there four years later. The first - stones used in this mill were taken from the remains of an old French mill on what was called French Creek, the stream at the foot of what is called F‘l11nignn's Hill. In 1788, while living in Vernon River he married 'E1cano1', daughter of Captain Williams. a retired British officer living in NS. They had seven sons and six daughters.
