Tae seesion of the Summer Schoo! of Science is nearing its termination: but (he interest continues unabated. Sunday’s services were of ao interesting character ; able and scholarly sermons were preached by Rev. Dr. Read, of Kalamazoo College, Michigan; Rev. Mr. Turner, Jersey City ; Rev. Dr. Andrews, Sackville; Rey. T. H. Siddail, Port Medway. On Monday evening, H. N, Shaw, of Toronto College of Music, gavea Recital and Tablesux entertainment where selec tions from Shakespeare’s Mevry VIII, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet were givep, aiso from Richelieu by , Bulwer Lytton. The recitations were illustrated by seventeen tableaux exquisitely costumed and arranged. The lecture on Tuesday evening by Rev Dr Andrews was one of the best of the course of evening lectures. His subject “Tne wonderful speck of life.” Life, he said, occupied but a fringe of space in this greats universe, exvendiag only a short distance below the surface of tee earth and a short distance into the air above ue, leaving the vast depths beneath | and heights above dead. I:also has exs ieted for a very limited time; and its dura tion is short. The living matter in ail bodies is & cell,a bioplast which he de- scribed as to size, Composition and prop- erties. Coming to the body cf » human being the lecturer said that four-fifths of our bodies are dead, one-fifth alcne lives. The life history of the e cells w r- given —method of propoga:icn acd o ft-reotia- tion, bow that starting ‘rum a common parentage the different forme of life are cimply aiftereot branchings in the course of evolution. Man is not an evolution from the lower orders, but is the highest development that has accrued from the parent stock. The lecture was clearly iliustrated by blackboard drawings and was to all who heard it arich literary and scientific treat, Tueeday was spenton an excursion to the historical ““Anuspolis Royal”. Learing Bear River by the Marina, the excursion~ ests reached Annapolis at1l o’clock. Proceeding under the guidance of several citizens, the old fort wae visited and points of interest described. Fortuvately the celebrated Freachman had forgotten his native tongue, and carried on his conversation in understandable English. The walle of the magazine are 7} feet thick built of Caen stone brought frem France. The pian of constructicn of the fort was ex- plained. The area of the fort is thirty - ene acres. Many points of interest outside the fort were vis- ited, including the grave yard and the old summer houseof the French governors, that we were told was 345 years old. This was a very enjoyab'e excursion, and those ofus who are teachers will be able in the future to teach the history of Port Royal with a vividness before impos sible, having stood on the ground and in imagination seen the struggle for suprem- acy between the two great powers for the possession of the continent. CRICKET. Great interest is being manifested ina game of cricket scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. The elevens are to be known as the *‘Get Theres” and the ‘‘Absentees.” The game is the outcome of a remark made at a recent meeting of the Phoenix men to the effect that an eleven drawn from those prevent at the meeting could make any othereleven in the ciub look like thirty cents when the cotal of the ecores were totted up. Both elevens ex-~ prese confidence in their ability to win. and eepecially the ‘get there’ chaps. * They arguecthat as they could get there to discuss business.‘at the @§meet~ ing, “so also can they get there with the willow on the crease. The absentees laugh at this conclusion, and claim that though they may have been elow in com. lng to talk business tuey will be as lively as a batch of kittens in piling up runs. Stumps are to be pitched at 2 o’clock, and the teams made up ae follows :— Absentees—R V Longworth, Ings, Bif- fin, Robertson, Seale, Dr Johnaon, Lowe, Rice, Messervey, McLean, Carvell.
