Dec. 22-American stocks are firm again in London and Amsterdam especially glee] mlw- Congress has adjourned without passing any major 19515- lotion. President Roosevelt in his press interview yesterday charged the press with fostering fear, few business men are blamed. The utility men with whom he talked yesterday apparently favor the present valuation as the base o! rate making. Iron Age continues rather optimistic about the steel businem after the first or the year. American Petroleum Insti- tute reports an increase of gas stocks of 27.750 barrels and a gain in crude oil production of 25,500 barrels daily. Yesterday's close was rather favoralble and an up in any volume would suggest that the market be followed especially the steels. coppers, oils, chemicals and aviation stocks. NEW YORK. Dec. 22—The mar- lliet has now developed into a quiet trading affair with prices of lead- ing industrials probably well to- ward the top of the current move- ment, in fact, the most important buyer we lmow or who accum- ulated several hundredl thousand shares of stock since October has been taking his very splendid prof- its and hells but a fraction of his holdings left. He did very well except on one of the leaders and. 0f course. B5 llfiilhlly the case has some sleepers on his hands. That the market could so readily ab- sorb such selling speaks rather well for it but at _that leaders seem tired at the moment and would be prepared to see steels back track. S0 f0!‘ close trading we think o. shot at Steel and Beth Steel for short sales on strength might not be a bad idea. We are not bullish on mall order issues after their advance, especially Seals Roebuck and would seem to offer short ‘ sale opportunities. Johns Manvllle has soared since we urged buying for a turn and think short selling on strong spots might no policy. Aircraft stocks have done very well and We might as well call it a day as far as they are concerned for the time being though later we feel that we will assuredly want to re- enter these stocks.
