The char- acters in the cast were all well taken, and the excruciatingly funny situations were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. Miss Tucker captured the house by her ex- ceedingly clever rendering of the part of Susanne, and the splendid manner in which she acted the drunkem woman in the second act showed her great versatil- ity. Mr. Meldon as Dr. Blondet did excel- lent work, and he was ably supported by Messrs. Richards and Bushee. Miss Rus- sell, as Mme. Poulard, was also good. The specialties were very pleasing. When the new peer has decided, however, I venture to say, it will be found to associate him both with Canada and with Scotland. Sir Donald says cable reports from Canada are the firet he has heard of the appointment ofa new High Commissioner in London for the Dominion. The uname of Sir Richard Cartwright has been mentioned as Sir Donald Smith’s successor. The belief here, however, is the Canadian government would be glad for the present incumbent to retain the position so long as he pleases, and he cér- tainly does not talk now as if he were about to relinquish it.
