Nomination Procedure A. Each candidate is required to file a nomination form with the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) by the closing of nominations. The form is to contain the can- didate’s name, address, faculty, year, desired position, and the signatures and student numbers of ten (10) active members of the UPEI Student Union within that person’s constituency. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the sig- natures are all active members of the UPEI SU. B. By signing the nomina- tion form, the candidate agrees to abide by the Elections and Ref- erenda By-Law of the UPEI Stu- dent Union, or accept the out- lined conswquences. C. The CRO must vali- date each nomination form with his/her signature after ensuring the eligibilitv of the candidate to run. This validation must be done within twenty-four (24) hours of closing of nominations. D. Ths CRO shall preside at a nomination meetnig no more than twenty-four (24) hours after the closing of nominations and at that time shall announce the ros- ter of candidates found eligible to trun. All candidates, or oth- ers carrying a written state- ment by the candidate nam- ing them as official represen- tatives, MUST attend this meeting, which will outline elec- tion procedures. Failure to at- tend this meeting or to send a representative results in disqual- ification of the candidate by the CRO. E. If no eligible candidates have come forward to run for a ' position by the close of nomina- tions, the CRO shall reopen nom- inations for that position for a period of one (1) week from the close of the first nominations. F. If only one (1) eligible can- didate is nominated for a position he/she shall not be declared ac- claimed, but shall comapign for the designated period and shall have his/her candidacy tested by a ”yes/no/abstain” vote of the constituency. The total number of yes votes must be greater that the 50% plus one (1) fo the votes cast, for the candidate to be de- clared elected. G. At the nominations meet- ing the CRO must both read aloud and distrubute written copies of the election procedures to the candidates or their repre- sentatives, to ensure that all can- didates are cognizant with their responsabilities during the elec- tion and the implications of any infractions they commit.
