LETTERS Congratulations Dear Editor: I would like to congratulate my opponent, Paula McGuirk in winning the by-election held re- cently for the position of Arts Representative on the Student Council. I wish her success in her newly-elected position, I would also like to extend thanks to all of those who took the time out to come and vote. But I have just begun to fight! And for all the people who voted for me, rest assured, my name will re-surface in the March elections of this year. Be watching for a campaign near you! Yours Sincerely, William ‘‘Bill’’ MacMillan Re: Drama Dear Editor: Just a few words in addition to Glen Boswell’s_ article on DRAMA. For the most part Glen was right, the band was excellent. But he didn’t mention that they did an excellent version of Gary Newman’s “CARS”. I have to disafree with him on the point of original material. For the most part, their original material was just that, original. I, for one, am looking forward to the release of the band’s EP later this year. Impressed Dear Editor: I was surprised and a little chagrined to di» »\er that Don Lane’s sto’ on where to look for lost article’ :glected to mention the one area tx! draws (for what- ever rea~°ns) »early all students and whici: turns up literally scores of “‘lost” items annually — are you ready for this? — the Business Office and the Registrar’s Office! Fanfare, please, Sincerely, Michael Hennessey Registrar Advice Hi again, Well, I guess that two letters in two weeks’ll start the ol’ rumor mil ut I guess that will have to wait for another issue. This week’s concern is money! There may be a few of you who, if you could, would draw unemploy- ment insurance benefits and go to school. It now seems that this is possible. The situation would have to be very special; one must be qualified (enough stamps) and be willing to leave school if work (suitable work) is found. It goes without saying that you must be actively seeking work and are un- able tg find any. The following quote is from the UIC’s Digest of Entitlement, “It is however erroneous to believe that disentitlement from benefit is automatic from the day a full-time course is taken on the claimant’s own initiative.” There is a person on campus that I can put you in contact with that has initiated this new way of looking at UIC. So if you think you may be qualified to receive benefits, get in touch with me and I’ll help you get started. There are a few Holland College students pursuing this option and one of them was successful, retroactively! Bye for now, Ombudsman P.S. you can get in touch with me through the student union offices. Senior Class News There will be a Senior Class Meeting Thursday, February 13 at the Panther Lounge at 6:00 p.m. I urge you all to attend as we will be discussing tentative senior week schedule, update on the semesters events both past and future, and an update on the Valadictorial issue.
