A fire broke out in Hull Court House this evening, while the Cireuit Court was in session, and before it could be controlled between 350 and 450 houses were burned, and 2,500 people made homeless. The Catholic Chureh and the Presbyterian church, valued ac $90,000, were complete- ly destroyed. A high wind was blowing at the time, and the flying cinders caused fires to break ont in new places, every few minutes. All that part of Hull known as Britannia Street, and the Ottawa River east of the market, was burned over. At one time it was feared that the houses and lumber piles on the Ottawa side of the river would be set on fire by flying cinders. To-night hundreds of families are camped in the open air without shelter of any kind, Prompt measures of relief have been taken and mattters-are likely to be in gocd shape to-morrow. Application has been made to the militia department for tents to shelter the homeless. The loss is hard to estimate. It may be $500,000 and possibly $800,000. The insurance will not reach one-fifth of this amount. The origin of the fire is yn- certain, Montreal News. MonrreaL, June 5.
