JOHN, Feb. 8.'-_A_ terrible double fatality occurred yesterday morning at' Courtenay Bay, when two,oi tue dynsmiting crew, John Olsen, the foreman, aged about twen- ty-nine years, and Andrew Damon, his assistant, aged twenty-live, both diwedes, mrs instantly killed by the premature explosion oi dynamite in ai set ol holes on which they were work- IDK. i U i 1 'Dan»ou's body was torn limb irom limb and scattered about the ground, while Olsen's body was hurled by the awful force of the explosion to the shore in front oi the Miunicipal Home. about 300 yards away. The cause of the accident is not known and pos- sibly the reason for the dynamite go- ing 'oil prematurely will never be known, as Olsen and Damon were the only onus near the spot where the exs -plosion occurred. The accident occurred about a quarter alter eight. o'clock. Olsen and Damon had been at work loading a' ect oi holes. Everything was go- ing well and they had reached the lest hole and were putting the charge into it, when everything ex- ploded. As soon as the explosion wns heard, it was known that _there was something amies as no signal had been given. 'Workman ran to the place where the 'two men had been seen only a short;time beiore and were horrified to find portions ~oi their bodies scatteredabcut for some distance on the rocks and snow. * Both the dead men were Swedes and had been on the Courtenay Bay works almost since the blasting work was begun. Damon had worked in the United States fcr some time pre- vious to his coming to this country.
