morning at' Courtenay Bay, when
two,oi tue dynsmiting crew, John
Olsen, the foreman, aged about twen-
ty-nine years, and Andrew Damon,
his assistant, aged twenty-live, both
diwedes, mrs instantly killed by the
premature explosion oi dynamite in ai
set ol holes on which they were work-

while Olsen's body was hurled by the
awful force of the explosion to the
shore in front oi the Miunicipal Home.
about 300 yards away. The cause
of the accident is not known and pos-
sibly the reason for the dynamite go-
ing 'oil prematurely will never be
known, as Olsen and Damon were the
only onus near the spot where the exs
-plosion occurred.
The accident occurred about a
quarter alter eight. o'clock. Olsen
and Damon had been at work loading
a' ect oi holes. Everything was go-
ing well and they had reached the
lest hole and were putting the
charge into it, when everything ex-
ploded. As soon as the explosion
wns heard, it was known that _there
was something amies as no signal
had been given. 'Workman ran to
the place where the 'two men had
been seen only a short;time beiore
and were horrified to find portions ~oi
their bodies scatteredabcut for some
distance on the rocks and snow.
* Both the dead men were Swedes
and had been on the Courtenay Bay
works almost since the blasting work
was begun. Damon had worked in
the United States fcr some time pre-
vious to his coming to this country.
Olson and Damon were both 'good
workmen, in fact they were, in the
estimation of the superintendent, the
best men on the works.

TORONTO, Feb. 2.-The best man
ut a Polish wedding in the old Grace
Church, Elm street, yesterday was
John Chicora. The church building,
which is by the way, a dancing hail
now, was the scene oi much iestivity
in connection with the nnptials. Ohi-
cora fancied the title of best man,
and becoming possessed of the idea
that it did not apply to the cere-
mony sions announced that he was
the real beet man amongst the 150
guests and made a pngilistic at-
tempt to demonstrate it with the rs-
sult that the police were invited and
Chfcora was moved to the Agnes
street station. The refreshments
had been too much for him and the
uiiect was apparent when he faced the
Magistrate this morning. He will
reciiperate at the jail for one week,

SPECTACULAR FLIGHT.
NEW YORK, Feb. 3.-While Charles
0. Miles, a youthful Rochester, N. Y.,
aviator, was making a flight upside
down at Van altitude oi about 3,000
lent over the Hempstead Plains of
Long Island yesterday, the gasoline
in the engine oi the monoplane gave
out. Teil ilrst the machine dropped
quickly. Miles remained calm, bow-
ever, and with dexterity partly rightl
ed the moroplane, and made _a safe
landing after a. series of spiral dives.
Miles had gone aloli. to attempt to
establish a record doing the loop the

and other products from the cars
and as there is a limited number of
such cars, a tax must be levied to
pay if.-r the stalling of them by ship-
pers. This charge is graded up from
$1 ii day to $3. In Toronto and
Montrea; vars are held on an average
of 55 days beiore being unloaded.
