Air Launched Cruise Missile Test Undertaken | A UPEI Graduate on EDMONTON - A captive carry test of the unarmed air launched cruise missle was con- ducted in northwestern Canada by the United States Air Force on Saturday, March 24, 1990. During the captive carry mis- sion, the AGM-129A cruise missle remained attached to an Ameri- can B-52 aircraft, which took-off and returned to its United States base without landing in Canada. The aircraft flew over the Beaufort Sea, followed the MacKenzie River valley and then turned eastward near the junc- tion of the borders of the North- west Territories, Alberta, and British Columbia. The aircraft then continued southward to the Primrose Lake Evaluation Range near Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake, Alta., before it returned to the United States. A Notice to Airmen (NO- TAM) was issued by Transport Canada 48 hours in advance to notify the aviation community of $2 2 § the test. Cruise missle testing in Canada is carried out under the Canada-United States Test and Evaluation Agreement signed in February 1983 and re- newed in 1988. Participation in the testing is an acceptance of Canada’s abliga- tions and responsibilities with the NATO alliance. This participa- tion contributes to maintaining a balance of forces which effectively contributes to global stability. PS Tmeruescrcwee > Rally!! Rally!! Rally!! Rally! Rally! Rally!! Rally!! Rally!! She is one of the brilliant young scholars of the Is- land, excellent in several fields of study, but committed to mathe- matics. When she applied for gradu- ate scholarships in 1988, she had to compete against the very best students across Canada. For her efforts, she won an NSERC schol- arship — and the MacKenzie King Open Scholarship, of which there is only one awarded in Canada each year. Her NSERC scholar- ship was renewed in 1989, and this year, in open competition, she again received an NSERC. Her Master’s, which she just completed at the University of Waterloo, was in Pure Mathe- ' matics. Her Ph.D., which she | has already begun — again at the University of Waterloo — is also in mathematics, specifically in ' Combinatorics and Optimization. She has received financial support from both these departments. Good Luck, Angele! Graduates Challenge awaits young male or female graduates wishing to become career officers.
