The squadrons operate during the favorable weather of sumnler when conditions ore bcst for zlellal pho- tography. The negatives are sell! to No. 22 Wing. Detailed instructions of areas lvlllch need to he retaken must be sent back to the field crews and the speed of delivery set-up may mean the difference between not getting the photo correction and receiving it before tile weather closes in again. PERFECTION REQUIRED The photo wing must process prints perfectly and at top speed. A special machine was developed which turn: out negatives on an assembly line about 80 fest in length from dark room to dry neg- atives. This continuous process’ machine rolls out the film st l i~2 feet s miflute. Prints must be handled carefully, since ordinary priutin! methods might. stretch the paper and make the print unfit for mflP- ping use. The prints are the“ "matched up" in a mosaic. No. 22 Wing has handled as much as 39,000'feet of 9 1-2 inch film in a month. In its library it has stocked sway some 1.500.000 negatives. This year it made 530.- 800 prints with n. staff of about 120 handling the Rpcldilfe end of the work. wing cmsr. R. I. Thoma o!
