l THE BURDEN CABINET AND ITS CRITICS.
Mr. Borden was perhaps a little
hurried in his cabinet making. The
task. was new to him-he had never
‘ had that duty to' perform before. The
party is represented in the new Par-
liament by many ne\v men, who make
up from one-third to one-half of the
Conservative total. To choose a
cabinet under such circumstances and
allot them among nine Provinces with
due regard to all the interests con~
zerned was a task of no small niag-
nitude as well as n work requiring
much judgment and tact. A month
would have been little enough time,
but the celerity with which Sir Wil-
frid and his colleagues vacated their
ofiices and the exigencies of a. going
and n coming Governor General would
not admit of long delay. So the task
that would properly ‘have occupied
four wccks wus completed in a little
more than two weeks.
It was not to be expected that iii
couipletiug his rather hurried tasl'
.\ll'. Borden would wholly satisfy his
friends or di.~sai‘in the criticism of his
opponents. 'l‘here ure, in fact, some

of them are able and upright public
men who have in the past interested
themselves seriously in our wants
and requirements. Mr. Hazen, as
Minister of Marine will have the con-

and trust that in his hands the in-'
terests of this Province are quite as
safe, and will be quite as well guard-

nounced as yet it is expected that a
general election will be brought on
at once, with good prospects of the
new Administration being sustained
af the polls. The result of the recent
federal contest has no doubt some-
what depressed the hopes of the Lib-
eral Opposition, 2'/it the latter, under
the leadership of Hon. Clifford Rob-
inson of Moncton, may put up a
pretty stiff ffzht.
