The Constantino} le correspondent says that the Turkish Government has warned | Servia to Wi hdraw her troops from Bul- | garia OF the Turkish troops will invade | Sorvia BetoravE, Nov, 22. | 4 rumor is current here that Slivnitza has fallen, hut no oflicial coufirmation has bee? re ceived, e Lonvon, Nov, 22 Daspatchos to the Daily Telegraph from Simila says. *'The defeats of Servian troops are due to the dofective outpoating and over conlidence Three thousand two hondred Servian reinforcements are due at Pirot on Monday. A despa ch to the Standard from Pirot ays :—" It appears to be impossible to capture Slivni'zs until Sofia has been, which would enable the Servians to attack Slivnitzs from the rear, Both armies are badly clad for a winter campaign.” A collision between the English-speaking gitizgens and the French mob was only pre- yanted last night by a strong exhibition of the police, as the latter were determined to visit the west end and raise a disturbance smong the English speaking citizens. | The Riel Demonstration Unsuc- cessful. Monrreau, Nov. 22. The demonstration to-day was not as great a success as the promoters hoped, only a tithe of the hundred thousand ex- pected turning out, and these for the greater pars irawn from curiosity, At Si Patrick’s, in the morning, Father Dowd dulivered an eloquent and impressive grmon, warning Irish Catholics to have nothing to do with the agitation, and com- pending strongly the action of the Govern- ment in carrying out the sentence of Riel. The speeches were all of the most violent type, breathing denunciations against the Government, the French Ministers pare tigularly, and the English speaking popu lation generally. Morcier, Leader of the Liberais in Quebec, stated he had written Hon. Mr. Caapioau, offoriag to resign the Leadershsp of the national party in his favor if Chapleau would throw up his portfolio, but the Secretary of Siate had replied that the Government would stand or fall by its acta; that none of the French M nisters would resigD, and that Riel thoroughly deserved his fate. Resolutions were passed condemning the murder of Riel ; that the rebellion was in their opinion justifiable, and as he was a French-Canadian his life should have been spared, because all his race demanded it. The principal speakers were Senators Trudel aud Malhiot, Messrs. Mercier and Beaubien, M. P.’s. Wilfred Laurier, Legis- lative Councillor Turevtte, and Beaudry, and Meesre. Cursol, Vanasse, Bergeron, Tarte avd Desjardines, M. P's The Liberals were much more violent than the Conservatives. — ——— Two Terrible Cyclones. Lonpon, Nov. 23. A terrible cyclone swept over the Philip- pine Islands, Friday, eight thousand buiid- ings, including numerous caurches and tchoolhouses were destroyed, and twenty- two persons killed. Lonpon, Nov. 23. Despatches to the Times from Calentta, says that tive thousand people have been drowned, and a hundred and fifty villages submerged in Orissa by a cyclone, and that 1241 square miles in Moorshedabad and Huddes districts have been devastated.
