Tuurspay, Apri! 12 House met at 12 Mr. Bell presented a petition incor- porating the Tryon Dairying Company, which was read a first time and referred to the Private Bills Committee Mr. Bell asked the Leader of the Gov- ernment whether a petition has been re- ceived from Hamilton Wadman and other tenants on Lot 23, asking the Government to purchase the property known as the Arthur Irving estate, and what action the Government purpose to take thereon. Hon. Mr. Peters said the petition had been received, and proceedings were going on for the purchase of the e tae which, in all probability, would be com- pleted at no distant day. Mr. Aitken asked the Commissioner of Public Works ifa petition had been re- ceived asking for a wharf at Creek River, snd if 0, what action is intended to be taken upon the same petition. Hon. Mr. McLean said the petition had been received, and would receive the ear- nest consideration of the Government. Mr. A. McLaughlin asked the Commis sioner of Public Works whether a petition of certain inhabitants of St. Peter’s Har- bor settlement, praying for the opening of a new road from the Harbor Road towards St. Peter’s Lake was received by the Goy- ernment last year, and if so, what action has been taken in answer to the prayer cf the said petition. Hon. Mr. McLean said the petition had been received and a survey made, and the matter was now under consideration. Mr. Shaw askei the Leader of the Government to tabie a detailed statement showing liow the item of $1,746.75, as shown by the Public Accounts for the year 1893, as expenses in the Supreme Court of Charlottetown for Trinity Term is made up, the date of services rendered, the names of persons rendering such service, the amount paid to each person separately, and the nature of the service rendered by each person respectively; also to table a detailed statement showing how the item of $957.44, as shown by the Public Accounts for the year 1893 as ex- penses in Crown Prosecutions in Magic- trates Courts, is made up, the dates cf services rendered, the names of persons rendering such service, the amount paid to each person separately, and the nature of the service rendered by cach person respectively. Hon. Mr. Peters said the information asked for regurding the nmounts men- tioned would be given. All such other information as could be given would be tabled. Mr. James E. McDonald a-ked the Commissioner of Public Works if it is the intention of the Government during the coming summer to open a new road leading from St. Peter’s Road to Grand River Road on line as surveyed by Mr. Ball, in April, 1893. Hon. Mr. McLean said the matter would be investigated during recess and if desir- able the r ud would be opened. The Act incorporating the trustees of Morel! Hall was read a third time and passed Che bill incorporating the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was also read a third time and passed; also the bill incorporating the Grand River Dairying Company. Hon Mr. Peters moved the House into committee to consider the bill respecting the Succession Tax; Mr. Robertson in the chair. Mr. A. J. Macdonald claimed that the Government had no right to raise a special revenue in this way for the maintenance of the insane and poor, Mr. Gordon again reviewed his objec- tion to the bill, denouncing it as obnox- ious and wronging alike the living and the dead He asked all to ponder over the bill and consider it well. Hon. Mr. Peters moved that sub-section one of section four be amended by chang ing the words “twothousand” to “three thousand.” Mr. A. J. Macdonald thought the amendment was a step in the right direc- tion, but the Leader should have further and provided that no estate less than $10,000 be taxed.
