Steele and motors took the lead early in the day when buying ep- peered in U. S. Steel, ex-dividend of $2.25. and in General Motors. the third most active stock of the day. Steel fell back late in the day and closed off 1-8 at 75, while Gen- eral Motors added 58 at 62 3-8. Most pf the days losses were in the industrial issues. Oils lost-their early gains and closed mixed. Alr- iines had one brief buying spurt but ended with small fractional gains. Aircraft and metals were mostly lower, while Chemicals, rails and utilities were mixed but a bit higher on average. At Toronto TORONTO, Feb.
