UPEI Wind News by Erin Fletcher VP of the UPEI Wind Symphony Executive The University of Prince Edward Island Department of Music recital series will be presenting the UPEI Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Karem Simon, in concert this Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Dr. Steele Recital Hall. The UPEI Wind Symphony is composed of UPEI students, from Music and other departments, as well as many members from Charlottetown’s musical community, including local professionals and UPEI Music alumni. This semester we are happy to feature Mr. Frank Nabuurs as guest conductor of the Wind Symphony; he will be conducting his selection, Brandon Bay. In recent years, the Wind Symphony has earned a positive reputation for its performances of high quality and artistic merit. We are looking forward to a tour to Halifax and Dartmouth in mid-November. For those of you who joined us last year for our concerts during the second semester, you may remember an exciting piece by Robert W. Smith entitled Africa: Ritual, Song and Celebration. This semester, we have yet another powerful piece from this composer. The Inferno, based upon Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” is a haunting journey through the underworld. Other |4 \ highlights of this concert will include Jack Stamp’s Fanfare for a New Era, Vincent; \~ Persichetti’s Psalm for Band, and a charming arrangement of a familiar song - Variations on | ~ America by Charles Ives.
