     The Cameron's Island Bird Banding Station commenced operations on May 10 with Donna Martin 
     
     heading the banding operations and Fiep de Bie assisting on many days. In addition, nesting birds were 
     
     monitored at sample sites at Macphail Woods. 
     
    

    
     Birders were saddened with the closure of Birder's Journal after 13 years of publishing and 75 issues 
     
     being produced. Congratulations to Margaret Bain, Phil Holder, and other staff and writers from Birder’s 
     
     Journal who supported this initiative for the past 13 years and contributed so well to birding in Canada.

     PLANTS: Ground pine and ground hemlock shedding pollen, some red maple and red elderberry were in 
     
     flower, and shiny leaf willow and hazelnut in flower in the Kensington area on May 3; red maple in full flower 
     
     on May 12 between Miscouche and O'Leary and yellow birch and ironwood in flower at Burton (JDM, HI). 
     
     Ground hemlock shedding pollen in Green Road woods on May 15 (WG). White violets in flower at Donagh 
     
     on May 14 and lots on May 15 as well as a few purple violets. A few dandelions in flower at Charlottetown on 
     
     May 1 (JDM) and dandelions in flower on the warmest parts of the lawn in Donagh on May 22, in 
     
     Charlottetown on May 23, and with fields in full bloom on June lst in Mermaid area (JDM). Service berries 
     
     starting into flower at Donagh on May 24 (JDM). Painted trillium in flower at Head of Hillsborough on May 
     
     28 (WFB, EM). Wild strawberry was in flower in various areas of north eastern and central PEI on May 29 
     
     (JDM). Mountain ash and red-berried Elder in flower on Jun. 7 and pin cherry and hawthorn starting to flower
