A. Bruce, Wm. Laird, J.J. McLeod, C, H. Sterns and D N Forbes, ruling elders. Minutes of meeting March 5th were read and sustained. After reading correspondence. Presby- tery took up the petition from Richmond B iy. After hearing the Commissioner, D. N. Forbes from Tyne Valley; Mr. Mc- Lellan, from Victoria West; and Mr. Ramsay, from Lot ll: and _Mr. Dohie‘ from Lot 14, and after full discussion, the Presbytery on the motion of Mr. Full- erton, seconded by Mr. McLeod, unan- imously ngreed to the following lindingc- Resolved, in view ofthe fact that Tyne Valley, Lot 11a'il Victoria We st have shown their ability and in- tention to raise the minimum stipend, and ‘to calla settled pastor. The Presbytery hereby agree to disjoin Lots 16 and ll, and to erect the samelinto acongregrtatiou from this date, the former to be known as Richmond Biy West congregation- the latter as Richmond Bay East. That the Presbytery in coming to this _decision expresses its gratification at the state of our cause in the whole of the Richmond Biy district, and its high ap- preciation ot thaaialuous and successful labors of Rev. Mr. Murdoch. The Presbytery directs that the ses- sions as constituted before the union of the two congregations shall from this date be the sessions of the newly formed con- gregations and further that Rev. J. R. MacKav shall intimate the decisipn of Presbytery to Richmond Bay west coh- gregation on Sabbath 19th May, and to Richmond Bay east on Sabhath,May 26th. On motion Mr. W`. H. Smith was ap- pointed interim Moderator of the session of Richmond Bay east and Mr. H. G. Gratz interim moderator for Richmond Bay west. Mr. Fullerton being unable to attend the General Assembly, on motion Mr. John Sutherland of Caledonia was ap- pointed in his place. Mr. W. H. Smith was also appointed ‘in place of Mr. J. M. Fisher. Took up call from Souris and Bay Fortune. Mr. Craise reported that- he had moderated in a call at Bay Fortune, , on May 2nd, that it was unanimous and enthusiastic, that it was in favor of Rev. J. F. Polley, and that it was signed by A 121 communicants and 220 adherents, that the salary promised is $800 without a manse. s On motion the conduct o`f the moder- ' ator was approved and Mr. C. H. Sterns Commissioner was heard. He testihed to the perfect unanimity and heartiness of the call. The call was then sustained as a regular Gospel call and ordered to be placed in Mr. Polley`s hands. Provisional arrange- ments were made for his induction as follows:-Services to be held in Bay Fortune church at a day and hour to be fixed by the Moderator and Clerk. The Moderator to perside. Mr. Herdman to preach. Mr. Adam Gunn to address the Minister and Mr. J. W. McKenzie the congregation. Serving the edict was left in the hands of the clerk. Mr. Adam Gunn reported that he had been unable to secure a man that was acceptable to Dundas, and asked that he be relieved from the interim Moderator- ship of that Session. The Presbytery declined to grant Mr. Gunn’-s request. The Committee appointed to visit St. Peters Road and Covehead, reported that they had unanimously agreed that it would be wise for that congregation to secure the services of a settled pastor, rather than continue under an ordained missionary. In the meantime they re- quested the Home Mission Committee to provide for uninterrupted services which had been done by continuing Mr. Layton until June lst. On motion the report was received and approved. _ " The Clerk reported that all applications make by the Presbytery for Augmenta- tion grants have been sanctioned by the Augmentation Committee. The hour of adjournment having arriv- ed the Presbytery adjourned to meet in' the same place at the hour of half past two, of which public intimation was made and this sederunt closed with the benedic- tion. Same place and date at the hour ot half past two Presbytery met pursuant to adjournment and was constituted, Mr, R. McLean, Moderator, Sederunt et supra. Took up complaint of Rev. D. McNeil and others against the session of Zion Church Charlottetown, re the introduc tion of individual cups in the dispensa- tion of the Lord’s Supper. 1 The complaint was read together with extract minutes of the session of Zion Church, and all papers bearing upon the 'matter after which Mr. McNeil and Mr. Alex. McLeod were heard in support of the complaint. ' After discussion Mr. T. F. Fullerton moved, seconded by Mr. A. J. McNeil, that the matter brought before this court belongs to the class of questions which are matters for individual se isions and congregations to deal with and to issue without prejudice to the authority of the higher courts of the church but in com- ingto this finding the Presbytery would impress upon all sessions the need of prud ence and caution in the introduction of individual caps, so that thepeaee and turbed. | harmony of congregations be not dis- lll lil llllllllllll llll ... .-._-_ _-. _ . 1 _a from (tl man t (tl man li/ S{6@ d[.O’h@b 6 _ e,\»a 88,33 ape S6 ,fe SS 6s A #KYB ..
