A Gii-‘T To "rm: si-:.\'si-:s." ii “Then said He to Tlionias-Reach _hither thy finger and behold my hands, and reacli thither thy hand and thrust it into my side."-John 20:27. ‘ I hold in my hand a Pocket Manual of the unconcealed Ritual of the Masonic Order. On page 23,undcr the heading “Tlic Five Scnscs of Human Nature- Hearing, Seeing, Feeling, Smelling and Tasting," occur these words: “The first three, Hearing, Seeing and Feeling are 'deemed most essented to us as Ma.soiis.” Then there is an ominous silence sug- gested by six' mysterious stars, which leave the uninitiated to infer that only to Masons are they intended to be lustrous with any Heavenly meaning. It is sufiicient for my purpose to know that the world of sense speaks to it Mason, perhaps with clearer, purer articulation than to any one else, after a Heavenly and spiritual niaiiiier. On such occisicns as this it is customary to preach about the Brotherhood of Man. Nearly everything that can having been said upon this subject it remains for us rather to learn how to be brotherly, translating Brotherhood ideas indeed deeds, dreams into waking moments. I have chosen as my subject this morning “The Gospel as a. Gift to the Senses" endeavoring to substitute some light from the sky of God`s special revela- tion in Christ for the mysterious darkness which gathers around the unexplained stars in your Ritual to which I have referred. The preacher then referred to the Gos- pel as God’s Gift to the imagination and the reason, empliiisizing last but not least the revelation in Christ as also God’s Gift to the senses of man. There had ‘been a continual gift of God in His teaching to the reason and spiritual imagination of the world, and also, together with this higher revelation running side by side with it, there had been in the visible presence of the Son _of Man on earth a revelation of God tothe senses. Certain practical con- siderations which are to be derived from reflection upon this Gift of God in Christ to our bodily senses vgere impressed. I We usually remind one another how partial and superiiciisl the knowledge of things is which we can gain only through S Special Engagement. i One night only of the Lyceum Co.,pre- sentng the “Merchant of Venice" iii Market Hall, Summerside, on Tuesday evening, June 26th. W'HA1'EvER may be the result of the in- vestigation, now pending, relative to the _ window breaking outrages, which have brought disgrace on the fair name of Summerside, the Town Council deserves a. great deal of credit for the work they have done.
