C. freshman squad, has discovered that a motor car makes an excellent charging machine, and is al- so a handy thing to have about the field. Don Smith drove out to Bovard field Friday night to watch Ralph Glaze put his 'varsity men through the final paces. While the 'varsity men were working the freshmen were taking thc kinks out under Coach Irvine. and Don persuaded the peppery little coach to allow his roadster on the field. Taking the centre, guards and tac- kles of the freshmen line, Irvine lined the ruslicrs ilp and had them charge the car. The coach took the wheel, and with the car running on the low, charged the freshmen line. It was more sport than benefit for the fresh- men; but it showed great possibilities. With a bumper widened and properly padded, the coach would be able to sit at the wheel and direct the charg- ing practice of 11 large squad of line- men. It is an easy matter to control the car with the hand throttle and brake, and lrvinegot a lot of work out of his boys, although it was mostly play. Witll a modern car it is an easy mat- ter to make quick stops and fast get- aways, so Irvine proposes to have Ralph Glaze, the 'varsity coach, take a The Shoe Men machine next week and drive his Tro- jan eleven up and down the field in signal practice. The players also were made to dive for the ball under the fender, which lyljjjj/f[’_`\\\\\\\\\'[[[[If§ was dangerous, but productive of re- , Mr. Farmer Do not forget to our fish supplies fr s. PRINCE WAS KILLED BY HIDDEN SOLDIER. , PARIS, Oct. 22.-A despatch from Ostend to l'Humanite, describes the killing of the Prince of Lippe and his nephew by a private Belgian soldier. The despatch says that the Germans, after occupying the town of Liege, continued westward to Seraing, where they liiteiided to begin the bombard- ment of the forts at. Fleron and Flemalll the next day. The prince and his nephew went oil ii trip of inspection of the surround- ings of Fleron during the night. When they reached a certain poilit they left their carriage and continued afoot. A Belgian soldier, :i simple Flemish cara- bineer, happened to be on the spot. He had become separated from his command and did not know where his regiment was. On seeing the ofllcers he hid in a ditch. lie fired oil the prince and his nephew as they camc near and both fell dead. The soldier reported the affair later, and the corpses were removed to it inortary at Scrning with due ceremony. The helmet of the prince contained u pile of bank notes, and his belt und the llilt of his sword were decorated with precious stones. M. Delvigno. a Socialist alderman, who was acting as Burgomaster, handed over all the valuables to the German ofiicers who came seeking news of the prilice. The officers wore astonished to find the valuables had not been stolen. The family ofthe prince sent a letter thanking the municipality of Seraing for its treatment of the bodies and care of the valuables, and also a re- presentative to thank the officials.
